Obama camp responds
The Obama campaign responds:

"With Senator Clinton's refusal to denounce or reject Ms. Ferraro, she has once again proven that her campaign gets to live by its own rules and its own double standard, and will only decry offensive comments when it's politically advantageous to Senator Clinton. Her refusal to take responsibility for her own supporter's remarks is exactly the kind of tactic that feeds the American people's cynicism about politics today and it's why Barack Obama's message of change has resonated so strongly in every corner of the country," said Obama spokesman Bill Burton.

1. Message of change? Sorry, but all I see is the Obama camp playing politics as usual, like any other
political campaign.

3. They aren't pushing 'embarrassing' pictures or praising the GOP candidate over her. Nice try, though

25. The Clinton campaign called for Samantha Powers' resignation,
and she had the integrity to step aside, but Geraldine Ferraro just had a slip of the tongue. When you remove your head from the sand, or any other orifice where you may have it concealed, you can only reach the conclusion that one campaign is running with integrity, and the other is not.

15. I see the Clinton campaign conducting a campaign of the type
George Wallace would have waged. So Obama is supposed to sit still while her surrogates burn verbal crosses? Even worse, are we to pat Democrats who engage is this rhetoric on the back and countenance it? I don't think so.

...does anyone else see what I see...

"refusal to denounce OR reject"

He even gives her a choice in which terminology she wants to employ.

8. additionally from the Clinton camp according to that blog
Edited on Tue Mar-11-08 06:10 PM by 4themind
"We reject these false, personal and politically calculated attacks on the eve of a primary. This campaign should be about the leadership we need for a better future and these attacks serve only to divide the Democratic Party and the American people." You might they were talking about ferraro, but no it was about the obama camp :|

13. I suspect the Clintons are doing this on purpose
Certainly they could have denounced it and they haven't.
SO...
What are they doing? Are they trying to capture the news cycle
and diminish the message of their losing yet another state?

Are they trying to bait the Obama campaign into anger?

WTF ! These Clintons don't take a poop without a plan
so, what's the plan with this Ferraro nonsense?

14. OK, I will post Clinton's statement again, even though I will draw ire.
“I do not agree with that and you know it’s regrettable that any of our supporters on both sides say things that veer off into the personal. We ought to keep this focused on the issues. That’s what this campaign should be about.”

17. You know, I'm starting to see a coordinated pattern here
in the Clinton campaign strategy:

(1) Remind voters repeatedly in subtle and not so subtle ways that Obama is the "black" candidate (this has been going on since SC)

(2) Try to rile Obama up to get him mad and off his game

(3) When he does punch back, hold firm--because you want to look like the "tough" person, which of course makes you cross the threshold for C-I-C.

You know, when I first read that Orlando Patterson op-ed about the 3am ad containing subtle racism I thought maybe that was reading too far. Now I'm not so sure: the beautiful little blonde girl asleep at risk from something dangerous--could it be the wimmins and chilluns might be at risk from something? Perhaps it's a Negro about to break into the house in the middle of the night!

There's too much of this stuff going on to think it's just an old has-been like Ferraro "misstating" something on her own. It's a strategy. Why not drum up feelings of white backlash against the promotion of black people just because they're black? Because that's a really widespread notion in this country--apparently even among a lot of people here at DU.

19. Hillary can't play the victim card here. Of course she isn't going to say anything.
Hillary would be out of the race by now if she couldn't play the victim card at every opportunity.
