I wanna make something perfectly clear about James Carville.
He's not just sleeping with the enemy. He is the enemy. Remember, for example, his role in the Kerry concession. He sold us out, and not for the first time, methinks.

Carville & Matalin are kindred souls. The only detectable difference between them professionally is that they're working different sides of the street so as not to compete with one another for business. Neither of them has an ounce of integrity. That may be natural for right-wing streetwalkers like Matalin, but we generally expect more of those who put themselves forth as spokespersons for the left.

I have always Carville's association with the Clinton campaign disturbing. Lately, especially since the McCain/Obama crap I've been getting to understand it a bit better. I think the old saw about "birds of a feather" covers it pretty well. And now along comes Geraldine Ferraro, everyone's favorite Mafiosa, with her juicy insights (essentially a rework of what she said about Jesse Jackson in '88), proving herself to be yet another member of the flock.

46. Yep, you sure did.
I wanted to give Carville the benefit of the doubt, given his vigorous defense of Clinton during the Lewinsky scandal. But really, he wasn't defending Democratic principles or the rule of law or anything as noble as that. His loyalty was to Clinton and the DLC corporatists only.

The longer this campaign goes on the more I am realizing that the DLC/corporatist/Clinton wing of the party needs to GO.

At first I thought the line was nebulous, but it's getting increasingly clear which side people are on.

Kerry went against the advice of his team, let Edwards do most of the campaigning too. I was here in Ohio at the time. Bush, he hit the rural towns and cleaned up!

I saw how many places Kerry went to in Ohio while he was running a national campaign, so don't try and push off baloney and expect me to swallow it.

And Carville HELPED in ways only a real BushClinton protecting TRAITOR would help:

There's just no way.

You know what reeks?
Matalin - she looks like death warmed over.
She looks like she died 2 years ago, but forgot to lay down so they can bury her.

Carville looks like a talking skull.

But, there's no way in hell that anyone can deny that Matalin would lose a beauty contest even if she was the only one to enter it.

No way.

Nope.

No way at all.

28. It wouldn't reek of sexism if you didn't choose the WIFE of the subject of the OP
to insult by attacking her looks. Isn't the subject of the OP an easy enough target for that? Why skip him to attack her looks?

I'm not trying to attack you... I'm only trying to point out the reason why what you said comes across as very sexist to me.

When Obama wins this nomination, it will essentially end the lucrative media careers of Carville and Matalin.

No Clintons around, no Clintons up-and-coming. Carville/Matalin become irrelevent, and my TV will be very thankful indeed. My TV will give me a tip when it learns that Carville/Matalin also dragged Terry McAwful and Mark Penn with them, too. :-)

Well... they will have a second option. They might just run to Fox News so they can bash the Obama Administration day in, and day out. They won't hesitate if given the opportunity, this much we know for certain.

48. There is plenty to criticize Ferraro about without labeling her a Mafiosa.
Edited on Wed Mar-12-08 09:16 PM by hedgehog
A little history: back in 1984, people spread rumors about her husband because he was Italian and worked with New York real estate.

In 1992, Mario Cuomo finally decided at the very last possible moment NOT to enter the New Hampshire primary. The reason given was that he had to work on the New York State budget. It was widely believed that someone had threatened to accuse him or a family member of Mafia connections. My mother claims it was the Republicans, but I've always wondered about the Clintons.

Throwing out random accusations that someone with an Italian name must have Mafia connections is a form of ethnic profiling. Do you believe that everyone with Middle Eastern connections is a terrorist?

Edited to correct the date. oops

... who were involved in organized crime.

But no, Ferraro is certainly not a "mafiosa". She paid a price for her husband's lack of discretion, though. It sank her political career. And she was ticked off at Italian-American organizations for not speaking up on her behalf when the press raised the whole "mafia" angle in 1984.

I've been reading up on that election.

(Edited to add -- interesting supposition about the Clintons, and I wouldn't put it past them. The thing about the charge of "mafia connections" is that it's almost impossible to disprove in people's minds. All it takes is ANY kind of transaction, plus the ethnicity of the accused -- and people's imaginations will do the rest.)

51.  I for One Appreciate Carville's Vigorous Defenses of the Democratic Party
during times when it was extremely out of favor. His book "We're Right, They're Wrong," for example, is moderate but very passionate about core Democratic principles.

Having said that, he has sided with the corporate wing of the party and been on the wrong side of many issues for awhile now.

I hope Carville stays a committed Democrat, but it's time for Dean and Obama to lead from here on.
