National Review: Somebody Was Snooping in Obama's Passport File? (Clinton link?)
Edited on Thu Mar-20-08 11:55 PM by loveangelc
A weird campaign cycle gets even weirder - three State Department contract employees have been caught nosing around in Barack Obama's passport file. Two were fired, one was disciplined. The first breach was on January 9; the inspector general is launching an investigation.

A little while back, the Hillary campaign — specifically Lee Feinstein, the campaign's national security director, asked a question:

As voters evaluate you as a potential Commander-in-Chief, do you think it's legitimate for people to be concerned that you have traveled to only one NATO country, on a brief stopover trip in 2005, and have never traveled to Latin America?

I remember hearing their charge that Obama had only visited one NATO country in his life and it seemed pretty hard to believe... out of countries like Canada, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Turkey, etc., Obama had only been to one? The boy who grew up in Indonesia, and visited relatives in Africa, never made it to any of those European countries? The guy who lived in Chicago and went to Harvard never made it to Canada? (I presume Canada wasn't the site of the brief stopover trip.)

Now, I'm not saying that the Hillary camp did the snooping in the passport file. But in asking that question, they seemed awfully certain that Obama had never been to one of those countries earlier in his life, didn't they? Note they didn't say, "you have traveled to only one NATO country as a senator", (it wouldn't be all that surprising that Obama had only taken a few foreign trips since taking office in January 2005); they worded the question so that it encompasses his entire life.

The question came from the Hillary camp on March 12; two of the breaches were before that date. One breach occurred two days later.

Hmmm...

1. As I thought, the right wing is setting Clinton up. That's the only reason the Moonie Times
broke this story.

I hope to God she had nothing to do with this. Because if she did, her career is over.

15. It seems a little strange to me that
the rw would set hilary up now when they have more of a chance of beating her than Obama.

I hope we get to learn all the facts of how this plays out.

22. Why would they set her up? To take the focus off McCain.
If we are so busy fighting Clinton, we are taking our eye off McCain. Which is what the GOP needs considering the media isn't reporting on McCain gaffes and borderline senility.

16. I agree, this is too convienent
this is like the third link I've seen with this same story. It reeks of right-wing propaganda. I think this could go a long way to mending fences and getting back to working against the real enemy. OTOH as an Obama supporter I am required to at least mention that I don't think Hillary has been playing very nice and there is a slight possibility that someone in her campaign is involved in this. I certainly hope not.

21. Read it and weep
What is this now? If you can't link the Clinton camp to the leak itself and all you have is well they had ties to Bill Clinton that's pretty lame that's almost Bush follower area you're sliding into. Are you telling me Tarhell Dem that you're lower than a Bush supporter?

23. I understand it's a bitter pill to swallow...
but it's the Clinton campaign who has consistently wallowed in the filth that is Matt Drudge, and it is the Clinton campaign that has been endorsed by such political luminaries as Rush Limbaugh & Ann Coulter. You can accept that, or not. I really don't give a shit. And let me promise you this, it's not a good idea to come here with a relatively low post count, and call a DU'er a "Bush Supporter". People could get the idea that you protest too much?

Enjoy your stay, however long or short that may be.

4. Divide and conquer - DynCorp a neo-con Blackwater type agency involved
Who go to the highest bidder. I'm extremely skeptical on a Clinton connection
considering who is involved. The republicans have more to gain by democratic
division and would leak things, if it could cause anymore finger pointing at both
camps. The workings of the State Department is in the Neo-cons control including
subcontractors.

Newsmax doesn't belong here and neither does the National Review.

The premise behind this article is very easy to debunk.

The State Department doesn't keep records of people's travels. Passport applications have space for the countries and dates of travel, but the box is marked "not mandatory".

Snooping into Obama's Passport files would not provide the Clinton campaign with any proof that he had not been to Canada.

Not post National Review and rationalize it.

and a 3 year investigation ensued. This has Bush and GOP written all over it!

Hillary would never do such a thing...how disgusting that you even insinuate that she has something to do with it.

Obama is maybe capable of such dirty ploys, after all, he tried to used his own pastor as a political weapon against the Clinton's by releasing that picture of the 1998 Annual White House Prayer Breakfast. Which I might add, 100 other ministers were also there at that same 1998 WH Prayer Breakfast with Rev Wright and seen seated at the tables in the photo.

nice try Axelrod but sadly a very amateurish political trick...better luck next time.
