*Nader – Kerry Meet Productive and Positive*
*Future Meetings and Ongoing Communication Planned*
Washington, DC: Independent presidential candidate Ralph Nader today
met with Senator John Kerry to discuss the 20004 presidential campaign.
“The purpose of the meeting was to discuss issues of interest to the
daily lives of the American public – to put the focus on the human race
not the presidential horse race.”
The meeting, which lasted for over an hour, included discussion of many
issues including those areas of need rejected by the Bush government.
“We highlighted our common determination to intensify three policy-law
enforcement areas. First, ending corporate welfare as we know it to save
taxpayers billions of dollars and reduce the feeding frenzy in
Washington by large corporations for subsidies, handouts, giveaways and
guarantees that are denied small business.”
“Second, strengthening the rights of 42 million non-unionized workers
who wish to join a trade union through card checks and stronger
penalties against obstructive employers;
“Third, a tougher crackdown on corporate crime, fraud and abuse that has
looted so many innocent 401(k) workers, pension holders and workers,”
noted Nader. “We agreed that it would be useful to continue to stay in
communication and stay in touch.”
The meeting covered many necessities and rights of the American people
ignored or impeded by George W. Bush. Mr. Nader said “My intention was
to help raise the tone and increase the content of the 2004 Presidential
campaign. People want positive politics demonstrating changes and
reforms instead of the politics of personality and personal acrimony
enveloped in sterile media forays about the tactics of the day. Our
country has many solutions and opportunities for new directions that
should be at the highest levels of attention by presidential campaigns.”
The Nader campaign raised the issue of increasing the number of
presidential debates and including more voices in those debates. The
campaign highlighted the creation of a new fully non-partisan Citizens
Debate Commission, www.OpenDebates.org <
http://www.opendebates.org/>, which will shortly be announcing its plans for debates in the
presidential election.
Both men agreed to continue the dialogue since their common objective is
to retire the Bush Administration.
