WTF?? I just got a call from a paid phone bank for JK
that said ,due to campaign finance laws, that the last day for individual contributers to give money to JK is August 1????

is that true?

1. They told me July 26th...twice.
Applies to Bush, too, but they didn't put it that way at first. Pretty confusing.

I got two calls yesterday. Told them I'd contribute on-line when I'm ready to.

2. That coincides with the end of the Dem convention
after that he gets public money (I think).

3. yes, there is a cut off date which is why people are urging anyone who
wants to give money to do it before . i'm sure there are some who don't know about this rule and might have plans to give, but after the convention when it might be too late.

8. you can, but you have to do it before the that certian time.
it has to do with the new rules. i don't have a link but i'm sure someone else will provide one. i don't know the details of it. but i just know it's true that one can not donate after a certain date.

7. That's half true.
I don't think it matters after the convention.

9. I think you can still give but it is considered a new electin cycle for
those who are maxed out. So if you're close to maxing out, you can give until the end of July. In August the amount starts over for the "new" election cycle. We are still in the primary election cycle.

Is that right?

11. After the conventions
Each campaign gets $76 million to spend on the campaign, unless they choose to forego the public financing. If they acccept (and both campaigns will) they no longer can raiseand spend funds from private donors.

The one part I don't quite follow is with one convention at the end of July and the other at the beginning of September when does the financing kick in?

12. The public financing kicks in. . . .
as soon as the party convention is over. Therefore, Kerry gets his cash infusion a month ahead of Bush, but has to stretch the $76 million for an extra month.

This probably helps Bush more than Kerry.
