I'll be going to a Clinton rally tomorrow....suggestions for a question to ask?
Edited on Thu Apr-03-08 02:27 PM by Seen the light
Bill Clinton will speaking at UNC Charlotte tomorrow and there's always the possibility that I'll be able to ask him a question (not sure how Clinton events work). What should I ask him?

Don't give me questions that might get me tazed though. :D

Try to be serious though. I'd like to ask a question that he would give an interesting answer to that might be newsworthy.

I think they should go bowling to defuse tensions. Does it matter that Hillary is a way better bowler? I think it would be a fun event full of laughs.

25. What is the strategy for Hillary prevailing over Giulliani in the next NY senate race?
Is she considering running for NY State governor should Patterson step down?

I would support her in either race even though I don't support her in the current race for the nomination. Governor seems like a logical next step should she not prevail in the nomination for president. I think Giulianni will run for senate and governor and he would be a disaster for NY. I'd support her financially even though I no longer live in NY.

43. why is the low-experience non-New Yorker best for those?
If we're going for a dynasty family candidate, Andrew Cuomo is more qualified in NY. Or why not Schumer? Or all our Reps and many in the state legislature??

56. I have a problem with Schumer
This is why - I'm just about finished reading Gasparino's book Blood on the Street about the history of the dot com bubble bursting. If he's right, Schumer was very willing to go along with not regulating Wall Street firms even though there was lots of smoke indicating disaster for small investors. Schumer was way more concerned with keeping big donors happy than protecting the "ordinary" American. So right now I've soured on him considerably. and I'm surprised that he got away with his behavior.

Didn't Cuomo have a really rough time when he ran for governor? I recall that it got pretty bad and he withdrew his name for the nomination. If that's so, he might have a hard time with a new bid.

But I see your point. It's just that Clinton has the support of New Yorkers enough to win the senate election. And a well known candidate would be needed against Giulliani as he is so well known in the state. She seems like a natural for either position. And she really is a New Yorker now - as much as anyone who moves there. I'm a native New Yorker (in Colorado now) and I guess I'm open to all those who go to live elsewhere for whatever reason.

Thanks for your thoughts since they made me think harder about my own position on this.

NY is a Democratic state but that doesn't mean HRC is the best qualified Dem in the state.

I read a while back that they paid off their DC house, not their NY mortgage, so I wonder how long they'll stay in NY.

62. About their staying in NY
Edited on Thu Apr-03-08 03:36 PM by eleny
I was wondering about that, too, as I was typing my last response to you. I know I moved away back in 1976 - mostly for employment reasons. But if I were in politics and a senator for NY in Congress I'd keep my butt in NY for life. To me it's such political prestige to be representing NY. (Much of my heart is still there) So they'd be nuts to leave. Frankly, I expected Bill to run for governor at some point.

I don't know who else in NY has such a high profile that they could beat Giulliani handily. Rangel is well known but chairing Ways and Means is a very powerful position. It looks like it's going to be his for the rest of his career. Whatever happens in those races it's going to be very interesting.

Btw, nice chatting with you!

50. Ask Hillary Clinton to explain her votes
I realize I'm a broken record on these votes, but they represent non-negotiable core Democratic values.

Hillary Clinton
NO on Amendment No. 4882 that would have banned the use of cluster bombs in civilian areas.
YES on Bankruptcy bill (S.256) which stripped protections for people in debt.
YES on Kyle/Lieberman bill that sets the stage for the US to take military action against Iran.
YES on the Iraq War Resolution.
Hillary refused to sign the AFC Anti-Torture Pledge

McCain
NO on Amendment No. 4882 that would have banned the use of cluster bombs in civilian areas.
YES on Bankruptcy bill (S.256) which stripped protections for people in debt.
YES on Kyle/Lieberman bill that sets the stage for the US to take military action against Iran.
YES on the Iraq War Resolution.
McCain refused to sign the AFC Anti-Torture Pledge

However, on the 1996 Telecomm Act (aka media consolidation act, attn Rupert Murdoch) they part ways.
Clinton camp:
Signed into law

McCain:
Voted AGAINST it (along with Wellstone, Feingold, Simon, and Leahy)

She'll reply with her trademark vulgar spin, but try if you get a chance. People need to know that she's just another PNAC soldier.
