Breaking: Obama news from West Virginia
We held county conventions today. I don't have any overall state numbers yet, but based on reports coming in from my "West Virginians for Obama" e-mail list, he's doing pretty well.

The one county result I do have is right here:

Convention Report for Ohio County's 44 delegates:
Obama: 40
Undeclared: 2
Clinton: 2

Ohio County is located in the Northern Panhandle. It borders Pennsylvania and is largely blue-collar and of course, white. Now I don't mean to spur any false hopes in people, because I do still believe that Hillary will win the state. However, I think her margin of victory will be much slimmer than polls have been predicting.

Also, former Secretary of State Ken Hechler, who is well known and well respected, showed up at the Kanawha County (home of the state capital) convention to stump for Obama. He had the highest praise for him. Hechler said that during his lifetime (90-plus years), there have been only a handful of great communicators: FDR, JFK and Reagan ... and Obama is following in their footsteps.

8. Ummm, no.
The OP specifically referenced a county in the "northern panhandle." Virginia has no panhandles. West Virginia does.

10. It's not a primary. You are correct -- the state primary is in May.
These are county conventions to choose representatives to the June state convention who will select delegates to the national convention.

:)

12. The primary is on May 13.
These county conventions are apparently to select delegates to the state convention, which will be held in June. It is at the state convention that delegates to Denver will be elected in accordance with the results of the May 13 primary. Today's county conventions, however, are a possible indicator of how party activists are leaning right now. Early reports all seem overwhelmingly for Obama: http://wvablue.com/showDiary.do?diaryId=2048

11. I've always admired Hechler.
He was the only member of Congress to march with Dr. Martin Luther King in Selma, Alabama in 1956.
