Asking Obama supporters to not gloat or take negative action against Clinton supporters is a waste
Of course they are going to gloat, remember to his campaign and supporters anyone supporting someone else is a "God damn Republican!" They will take action to try to remove state party officials who supported other candidates, they will let local leaders and congressional members who supported other candidates that this or that project for their area is off the table. So, regardless of asking them, they are going to gloat all the way to a Dukakis like showing in the general, which will be blamed on supporters of other candidates.

I very much hope what I think will happen in the GE doesn't come true but not holding my breath.

4. You know what?
A lot of Obama supporters have gone out of their way to be gracious today. Many Clinton supporters have too. Threads like yours don't do anything to encourage good behavior by either side.

The posts here by Obama supporters this morning have been largely gracious and understanding.

What's your motive for the flamebait?

13. wow, that is a mighty broad brush you are using.
glad you think you've got it all figured out, but is it really appropriate to paint every supporter in the way you did?

are you really going to go on thinking that we are some enemy that are homogeneous and all think the same.

and i do think asking should not be necessary, we should be respectful on our own.

and btw, i have seen hundreds of O supporters on this very forum calling for an end to the nastiness and not to gloat.

i won't be gloating, i intend to be every bit as supportive of my fellow D's as possible so we can end this national nightmare we've been in.

but i keep getting told that I will gloat simply because of who i support, you don't know me or that for a fact.

16. There are some that will,
if that proves your point, so be it. Most won't, I don't know what that says to you. I would hope the same dynamic would be in play if Hillary had gotten blowouts, a few gloaters, many graceful, elated Hillary supporters.

17. I'm sorry you think all Obama supporters engage in groupthink
Stereotyping does no one any good. All Obama supporters will not gloat. Will some? Yes. Are some Obama supporters obnoxious? Yes.b Are some just here to disrupt and annoy the Hillary supporters? Yes.

Same for the other side.

Most of us just want a Democratic nominee to beat McCain. I'm ready to move on to that fight.

19. Right. You're one of the few people willing to admit it.
The anti-Clinton jihad is embarrassing and self-defeating. It is against the very concept of a party. When they're done having this little civil war, who do they think they will call upon as new voters? McCain's people?

:dunce:

21. Seems to me that the "opponent's supporters are all Republicans" claim
hasn't been something exclusive to the Obama camp.

>>>>remember to his campaign and supporters anyone supporting someone else is a "God damn Republican!">>>>

Yeah, there are Obama supporters who have attacked Clinton and her supporters by comparing them to Republicans, mostly due to her tactics. But there have also been Clinton supporters attacking Obama supporters- there have certainly been plenty of attacks on them based on them not being the "real" Democrats (not being part white and working-class enough- despite the fact that white, working-class voters haven't been a solidly Democratic bloc for decades now), being a bunch of elitists, naive college kids, etc. Neither side's attacks are anything new, but I don't understand your need to lump all Obama supporters in together as your OP does.

As for your claims regarding Obama people trying to "punish" state party officials who supported other candidates, etc.; it seems to me this would be just as likely, if not more likely, of a possibility if Clinton received the nomination. So I'm not sure exactly what distinction your post is trying to make...?

22. This forum does not represent the Democratic Party ...
... at any level. Just do a search for words like shrill and cackling, and you'll notice sexist threads are rarely if ever closed. This forum represents a white liberal male view of the Democratic Party. It is not a progressive place and many of it's members are not progressive. They are merely competitive. In the real world, a more pragmatic approach applies, and Obama will win if he puts together the better campaign (which I think he can do). The fact that this forum has angered so many members (including Obama supporters like me) reflects the bankruptcy of this forum and it's lack of progressive moderation standards.

As far as your other point, make no doubt about it that Obama, like Bill Clinton and any other party leader, will try to consolidate his power by putting in his own people in key positions, but he'll also recognize that he's won a close race and will need to broaden his coalition to win the GE.

29. You're right that this forum doesn't represent the Dem party in toto.
But that's because it IS far more progressive than the majority of the Dem party. I'll agree with you about the gender thing, it has me scratching my head sometimes, too. If anything, the moderation is too quick to shut out anything that isn't sufficiently progressive, or potentially offensive, when I think it's something most of us can handle. But that's their call. But this is drifting now, so I'll stop.
