Poll question: Would "white working class" voters accept an Obama / Richardson ticket?
Or would that be too much change?

2. No, but it would bring out the Black and Hispanic vote;
and at this point , they may well out-number that gullible lower middle class white vote.

3. As long as Ms NAFTA or a Lieberman "Dem" is not on the
ticket, I don't care.

4. Obama could win if he had a strong leftist bent to his economic policy like FDR/Truman did.
We need a New Deal-style president to undo 30 years of neglect by Republican presidents and congresses. Somebody willing to create new jobs, fight poverty, unemployment, and hold the wealthy accountable. These are things working class folks are interested in.

If Obama simply brings more of the same free-trade/neo-liberal policies of before, he will find McCain more difficult to beat otherwise.

23. Heh, that's a pretty good thread.
Lots of PAers can attest that Rendell just oozes old-style machine politics.

Doesn't work real well with Obama's brand.

8. Uh.... he "delivered" PA for Obama's opponent..... remember?
And don't forget he is the jerk who said PA voters wouldn't vote for a black candidate (paraphrased).

I don't think it will be Rendell.

21. Jim Webb works. He has the passion to get the job done
Think he is a bit moderate, but that will balance nicely with calls of Obama being too liberal.

7. Though I like Richardson
it's a sad fact of life that Obama will need a white male or female on the ticket. Webb, Clark or Sebelius would all be more preferable.

20. That is my fear too, but then again, this is a campaign
like no other! Also, I think the anti-immigration people would definitely come out the woodwork and swiftboat both of them relentlessly.

9. I am not sure
Because i am so far away from the mid west working class people. (I live in New Mexico) And where I live white working class people like me are in the minority.
But Richardson would get the Hispanic vote and native american vote too. And he has been a good Governor and mostly progressive.
And I know the world would accept it gladly. We could improve our relations with the south American countries and he is well liked on the world stage.

17. Bill Richardson would do so. He's not thought of as the Hispanic guy.
He's a solid Democrat with a nice good old boy routine, and he's a real guy. I think he will sell well in rural America. He's skilled.

18. Richardson has said that he would like to consider pumping water
from the Great Lakes to New Mexico.

That would go over like a lead balloon in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Indiana, Ohio and upstate New York. Even some folks in Illinois, like those who live in Chicago and drink Lake Michigan water, might take offense.

19. Did you hear Richardson's story about O? Bill was finally called
on, in a debate, and answered. Then he figured it would be a long wait again for
another question, so he stopped paying attention and didn't hear the next
question for him. And, Obama whispered it to him. I love that story.
I love Bill Richardson too. I think either he or Biden or Webb would be
a great team.

22. I do not think that Obama should pick another minority
Yea, it really shouldn't matter in a perfect world but I don't think it would be good in some swing states to have a "minority ticket." It might be too much to ask of the electorate. I think a white woman would be best. I want Hillary as VP, but also think the governor of Kansas would be a brilliant choice.

24. That's a concern I have.
But - and I almost hate to say it, but it's true - "Bill Richardson" is hardly an ethnic sounding name. If the campaign didn't make a big deal of him being Hispanic, it might work - because anyone who didn't listen to the political shows might just think he has a good tan, what with living in AZ and all that. And believe me, the Hispanics know he's Hispanic, and don't need to be told.

Still, I think it's a risk, with all the anti-immigrant fever. But of the potential choices, Richardson looks darn good.

Did you really mean "will white racists assholes who always vote republican anyway refuse to vote for the black man running with the mexican-american?" Yeah, probably lots of them won't.
