OMG. We are so lucky to have Senator Obama as our likely nominee and likely next president. I just watched him talking about how much his mother meant to him. How he owed everything he is to her. He then talked about the tremendous job that Michelle Obama is doing raising their two children while he's so busy with his presidential run.

I just see the kindness, generosity, and greatness in this man. His personal qualities speak volumes about the kind of person he is. We, again, are so lucky that he has come along at this time. He'll be one of our greatest presidents in the realm of Lincoln, Roosevelt and Kennedy.

He is a dream come true.

In this country - and this is important if we are to understand racism - no matter how much "white blood" a person has, they are still seen as "Black" by whites, based on superficial physical characteristics. White is seen as something "pure" and "uncontaminated" by "other races" - that notion is a critical and essential component of racism. If a person has superficial physical characteristics that whites associate with "Oriental" and superficial physical characteristics that whites associate with "Black," then they get confused, and that is when the term "bi-racial" is used to help whites keep things clear in their minds, and the reason for the need to keep things clear is to prevent any threats to white privilege. Whites can't "see" Caucasian features in a person who also has Black ancestors, because the power of "seeing" other races - and race is something imaginary that whites think they can "see" - overwhelms that. "White" to whites means no hint of anything associated with the "other" - and historically presumed to be lesser and inferior and subject - races. People are mistreated based upon appearance, and a person can have 90% white ancestors, and still be "seen" as Black by whites, and treated accordingly.

There is no such thing as racism that does not rest on the implicit premise that there is a "standard" or "pure" race by which other races can be contrasted and compared, and without privilege and status for the "superior" race, and without oppression and mistreatment for the less favored race.That is what racism is, and to strip from our understanding those components is to render the concept powerless and meaningless.

There can be no such thing as "reverse racism" and there is also no practical and functional "bi-racial" category that includes white parents or ancestors. Both of those are indicative of denial of racism or a misunderstanding of racism.

Black liberation ideologies are not the same as Black separatist ideology. It is a common mistake on the part of whites to lump any and all critiques of racism into the same category. Not a good path to go down; it in essence is saying "if you've seen one you've seen them all." Can you see that? Not good.

Regardless of which candidate we support, we need to stand united against racist ideas, especially since, as seems likely, we will be running a Democratic party candidate for the presidency who happens to be a Black man. We have to stand together on this, and stand fast. You know I am not an Obama supporter, and I hope you will give thoughtful consideration to what I am saying here.

She is almost 90. Her Memory is fading and she was crying today because she is losing the sight in her left eye.

I was so sad and when he started talking about his Mom,he seemed to be emotionally full - like me.

I've been on the Obama bandwagon since early March and I'm down with the hope and the new politics and the man but come on. We're not really sure what he's going to be able to deliver should he be fortunate enough to gain the office. Two things I know for sure, he will not be status quo and he simply cannot be worse than the BFEE. Let's take a deep breath and focus on winning in November before we take such a ludicrous step as to compare him to FDR or Lincoln. Focus.

he is not the second coming of Christ. It is going to be a long way down for some people who are practically worshiping him. He has not done anything yet to warrant the comparisons to some of our greatest leaders. They received that distinction by their actions. We have not really seen what Obama can and will do in the future. I sincerely hope we are not disappointed, but I remain reserved and objective. We should never put politicians on such a pedestal. It is dangerous. The country is so desperate after Bush that they are clinging all of their hopes and dreams on Obama. He is only human after all. Martin Luther King brought tears to my eyes. Obama does not. People who cry over what he says in a speech or in the media are ridiculous and they scare the hell out of me. Never give someone that much power over us. I really didn't think this needed to be said, but you were perfectly right in saying it!

Politicians are notorious fibbers, since their breed came into the light they have been actors with great craft.

I think we need to have a huge viewing party... the film I'd choose: The Candidate... you can't help but see every politician you've ever known and loved in Robert Redford's lead performance. That's why I've always cringed when I saw someone say how "inspired" they were with Obama's speaking... well I'm here to tell you, there were an awful lot of inspired listeners to Hitler's speeches... and to Jim Jones' speeches. Except Jones handed out actual Kool Aid.

I'll vote for him if he gets the nom, but I'm no more inspired by him than I am with the cold tea at coagulating at the bottom of my cup right now.
