What I found of interest is that it shows they're paying attention to our elections here. How many Americans would know who was running in a German, Italian, French election, much less have a float in a parade?

the result of the US presidential race is likely to directly affect Germany, France or Italy a whole heck of a lot more than the equivalent race in those countries will affect the US.
