Don't Listen to the Media Or Gallup: Obama does Better Among White Voters than They Say
I'm always amazed at how it seems we are better informed on issues than the Media is, even Gallup who is going off their own poll. Recently Gallup compared Obama's White Support to that of Kerry's and found it roughly the same. The problem is they polled from May 1-5. According to Gallup, this post Rev Wright and pre-primary period was Obama's worst in the Gallup Tracking poll. From May 1-3, he was down 6 points to John McCain, and only on the fifth day did he climb back to being down by 1. Now however, Obama is back up 1 and has been either 1 point up or down for three straight days. If a poll was taken now, the numbers would probably different in Obama's favor. So remember to use this argument to refute any Hillbots claiming that Obama starts at Kerry and will only go down from h ere

1. I'm always surprised to see DUers citing polls here anyway
The fact that you can find them to support polar opposite views is not only scary as all hell, but it should be a lesson to us all.

The dueling SD polls have been particularly hurtful.

Polls are not reliable.

up against a Bush machine that NEEDED to lose in 1992 and campaigned accordingly.

The responsible party who LOST a huge chunk of Gore and Kerry's many votes was the DNC set up by Clinton that let the RNC's election theft go uncountered in 2000, 2002 and 2004.

4. I watched a program on MSNBC this AM. They were discussing
some study some non-partisan organization had done. I can't remember the name of it, but I've seen the guy report on other things in the past. Anyway one of the results of their study is that Obama is exactly in the same position now that Kerry was back in 2004. He explained that this is the way campaigns are run. When you finally get a likely nominee, you do the research to find out exactly where your candidate stands with every group out there, find out your strengths & weaknesses, they work on the fringes to bring in as many of the non-supporters as you can by election day.

The other thing I haven't heard anyone say (at least none of the loudmouthed talking heads) is that the Dem vote right now is being split between Clinton & Obama. I'm sure there will be SOME supporters of each camp who will NEVER switch to our final nominee, but SOME WILL, and I think it will be many more than we think right now.

6. They were talking about this poll, and I'm refuting it
This poll was taken in Obama's worst possible period.

5. To get an idea of how white PEOPLE feel about Obama...
...you could also look at what we in the Great White North think about him as compared to John McCain. Now, we're not ethnically and racially homogeneous in Canada, but we are on average a more caucasian country than the US. And polls show that we pasty folk love us some Obama -- even our Conservatives prefer Obama over McCain by a ratio of about 2:1!

Canadian voters 'heart' Obama despite NAFTA
Updated Wed. Apr. 9 2008 2:22 PM ET

The Canadian Press

OTTAWA -- The NAFTA controversy has done nothing to diminish Barack Obama's popularity with Canadian voters, a new poll suggests. In fact, a Harris-Decima survey suggests Canadian support for the U.S. Democratic presidential candidate has skyrocketed in recent months and that he dominates his rivals.

The survey suggests Canadians of every age group, political stripe and gender prefer the rookie senator over his adversaries, Democrat Hillary Clinton and Republican nominee John McCain. When asked which of the three candidates they liked most, respondents preferred Obama over McCain by an almost five-to-one margin - 39 per cent to eight per cent. Even among self-declared Conservatives, Obama had almost double McCain's support. Obama also had a nine-point edge over Clinton, his rival in the Democratic primary. That is a drastic turnaround from January, when the better-known Clinton had an 11-point lead among Canadian poll respondents.

That hypothetical landslide is in stark contrast to polls from the United States, which suggest a close presidential race.
