Obama Unlikely to Pick Clinton as Running Mate, Kennedy Says
May 9 (Bloomberg) -- Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama isn't likely to pick rival Hillary Clinton as a running mate, according to one of his most prominent supporters.

``I don't think it's possible,'' Massachusetts Senator Edward Kennedy said in an interview on Bloomberg Television's ``Political Capital With Al Hunt,'' airing this weekend.

Kennedy, 76, without naming names, said Obama should pick someone who ``is in tune with his appeal for the nobler aspirations of the American people.''

``If we had real leadership -- as we do with Barack Obama -- in the No. 2 spot as well, it'd be enormously helpful,'' Kennedy said.

3. Sorry - but Kennedy is a jerk.
He hates the Clintons and they don't like him either. Goes back a long ways.

10. Kennedy is more of a true Democrat than the centrist Clintons will ever be.

29. Really? they were very close when Bill was in the WH
for instance the Clinton's vacationed on Martha's Vinyard and went yatching with the Kennedy's. Ted was a loyal soldier for Bill in the Senate. Can you go into some detail to support your comment?

4. Do you think there are those in the Party who
might be encouraging such a ticket? I just wonder if this is all media speculation, or if there's some nugget of validity to the possibility.

23. HISTORICALLY speaking, it would not shock me
Jack Kennedy and Lyndon Baines Johnson could not stand each other

I am sure Ted remembers that.

This said... for many reasons I don't think she's accept it

7. Do you think Clinton will do something similar to what he did in 1980?
That would be somewhat surprising.

14. I don't think she should try to get delegates released
from their commitments, the way he did. But he gave a speech of reconciliation. I do think she should do that.

I am a Clinton supporter. I will continue to defend her (and myself) from the childish and vicious attacks I have seen on DU. However, I am a realist and I have been around politics for a long time. Obama will probably get the nomination, and we do need to have peace in the party. I think that will happen. Like Kennedy and Carter, they are professionals, and they know what needs to happen. And we should remember, too, that in spite of Teddy's personal problems, he is a party elder who has served honorably and kept liberalism alive through some very dark times. HRC could be in the same position in thirty years (minus the dark times...I hope).

Back then, I sort of had the impression that Teddy did not really want it all that badly. He fought for it, but it never struck me as real. He went through the motions. He ended up serving us better in the Senate. I think that can be Clinton's legacy, too.

I wish there were a few more grounded people at DU who were posting for both candidates. I live in Illinois, in a red area, so of course I get a skewed picture of what sort of support is out there. And I don't trust pollsters any more. I always wonder who is paying them.

15. I doubt Kennedy would have said that without Obama's tacit support ...
he's likely giving Obama political cover to say "love ya, Hill- but my supporters just wouldn't accept you as VP."

16. So, Hillary is not appealing to the nobler aspirations of the American people?
Kennedy is a slimeball. I thought what he did to Carter was bad enough, but what he is doing and saying about Hillary puts him really low among the Dem elites in my book.

I still don't know how the party ever forgave you.

YOU are the one with no leadership skills!!!
