Listen To Kerry Slam Bush's "We're Turning A Corner" Phrase To Nothingness
"Yesterday, the president said to Americans that we were turning the corner, referring to the economy," Kerry said in Greensburg. "Well, let me ask you, if you're one of those 44 million Americans that don't have health insurance are you turning the corner? If you're one of those people who has a job ... that's been forced overseas, are we turning the corner for those folks?"

Despite slower-than-expected economic growth and a record budget deficit, Bush insisted that the nation's economic prospects were improving as he campaigned in neighboring Ohio, another battleground state hit hard by job losses.

But Kerry drew a parallel between Bush and Herbert Hoover, who as president during the Great Depression presided over an economy that experienced the biggest job losses in U.S. history.

"The last time we had a president who ran on a slogan of turning the corner was Herbert Hoover, and he ran on the prospect that prosperity was just around the corner," Kerry said. "I don't want to run talking about turning the corner. I'm running to climb the mountain and get to the top."

1. Home run!
Kerry is doing a masterful job of refuting Bush's points by using the truth and not stooping to personal attacks.

7. I'm in Maryland...
and on Friday I noticed several new John Kerry bumper stickers at the parking lot where I work. It is a pretty big parking lot too. It seems John Kerry acceptance speech inspired people! That's excellent!

I only saw one obnoxious Bush sticker though which said, "Thank me for your tax cuts. I voted for Bush in 2000". What a prick!

8. Hey, Cheney Got $88,000 Back - I'm Sure He Thanked Bush
The White House has pointed out they joined 109 million other Americans also benefitting from the tax cuts. In Bush's case, he and his wife paid $41,000 less last year than the previous year. In Cheney's case, the reduction was $88,000.

That is what a Cheney smile looks like.

3. Brilliant Move
Tying * to Herbert Hoover. In all fairness, I do harbor a smidge of respect for Hoover, who remained productive after his presidency. He organized emergency food deliveries to postwar Europe, submitted plans for streamlining federal bureaucracy and defining federal policies, and continued writing books and essays until his death at age 90. He would have been justified in withdrawal, despair and cynicism after the humiliating repudiation of his presidency, but he chose to continue public service.

As for *, I predict withdrawal, despair and cynicism after his defeat on November 2. Prison does that to a person.

5. The fine art of counterpunching....
....let your opponent throw a punch, and hit back while the opponent is exposed :)

Nice Job, Kerry! The "running to climb the mountain and get to the top" phrase is a thing of beauty!

I honestly think that the RNC is a bit dazed right now. The attacks don't seem to have any weight.

Kinda neat to watch actually :)

6. Pity me - I just watched all of Chimpy's speech in Pittsburgh
On TV, not in person thank goodness. Idiot-boy must've used that "We've turned the corner, and we're not looking back" at least 10 times. Damn I hope Kerry turns this in to the joke it deserves to be. Get Rovey off his game.

10. Don't underestimate Bush*
He taught Lee Atwater a few tricks. He may be a crappy president but he knows about campaigning. After all, he has basically done no governing and other than vacationing, he's been on the stump for 3 1/2 years! He's evil enough to go DEEP in the gutter if he thinks he'll lose. The family name and its place in history is on the line. Two one-termers who fought stupid wars will not resound well in history, plus they both left the economy in a wreck and the deficit expanding.

It gives the lie to the GOP being the party of fiscal conservatism, at least under their watch, but I'm sure Carlyle and Halliburton made a killing. Note, I have issues w/ Carlyle. I left the co I worked for as it was being acquired by them. I called about my pension distribution and got the run around and a series of changed numbers, no resolution. Where's my money??? They never returned calls and I continue to pursue this.
