Make A Wish Mother's Day Parade & A Republican Likes Both Obama & Hillary
Edited on Sun May-11-08 04:04 PM by JimGinPA
Every Mother's Day here in Lancaster County the Make A Wish Foundation has a kind of parade that goes through a lot of the county. It's kind of hard to describe, but what it is are several hundreds of trucks, any kind you could think of, plus firetrucks, ambulances, police & emergency vehicles, motorcycles and even a few odd cars. It goes past my house and it lasts about three hours, honking their horns and blasting the sirens etc. Most of them have sick or handicapped children along for the ride, which is the purpose for the whole thing. It's kind of a big deal around here and thousands of people (including a whole lot of Amish people) sit out and wave to the trucks & kids as they go by.

Anyway, to justify posting this on this board, we were playing tennis today on the other end of town and before we were finished we could hear the horns. One of the guys I play with is a lifelong repub, and his house is right across the street from the courts. Since I was going to have to go several miles out of my way to avoid the parade and wasn't in in any particular hurry, he invited us over to sit on his porch and drink a couple of Cokes. He was joking at one point about getting me a "good" bumpersticker for my car to cover the Obama sticker and I mentioned I had been working for the campaign he told me he liked Obama and said he sounded really intelligent and was probably going to be the next president. Then I asked him if he happened to catch 'Saturday Night Live' last night and when he said he hadn't I told him about the opening skit. Then he told me he had seen Hillary on O'Reilly and he told me he was surprised but he actually liked her and thought she was very likeable, and he said he really never thought he would have before. Now I doubt this guy would ever vote for a democrat since he has serious ties to the local repub party, but it was an interesting conversation and the guy never mentioned McSame at all.
