Anyone else find they've shifted from primary mode to GE mode?
Yes, it will be interesting to see how Hillary chooses to leave the campaign field, but beyond that, she's become somewhat irrelevant. I'm far more interested now in the match up between McCain and Obama, and yes, I feel confident that Obama will run as disciplined a campaign against McCan't as he did against Hillary. What changes will Obama make as he shifts into general election campaigning? I think we'll see him hitting much harder at McCan't than he did against Hillary. How is he going to appeal to her voters? What will he do to win them over?

I understand that some Hillary supporters here still think she'll be the nominee, and believe she'll win it on the convention floor in some dramatic fashion. I don't buy it for a minute, and that's why I find that I've moved on to thinking about how we can beat McCan't in November.

1. He's the nominee - nothing more to fight over in the primary. nt

2. I've definitely shifted
I used to be worried about what level Hillary would stoop to in order to try to win. Then I saw the voters reject her gas tax holiday pandering and now am no longer worried about what other tricks she might try to pull, even if they are race-baiting in nature.

3. I want to, badly.
But Hillary and her defenders keep it going. When the pantsuit lady says it's over, I will turn full force to Grampy. AS for now, the GE gets about 50% of my attention.

4. There was an
"Obama house party" in my area over the weekend. The people at the picnic included individuals who had been Clinton supporters in our state's primary. Everyone that attended is focused on helping Obama win the general election.

Hillary who? Obama acts likes it's over

BEND, Ore. — When the election returns filter in Tuesday from West Virginia, Sen. Barack Obama won’t be there. Nor will he leapfrog ahead to a later primary state, as he usually does on election nights.

Exercising his new-found role as the likely Democratic nominee, Obama will instead travel to Missouri, a general election swing state, to begin laying the groundwork for November. He will do the same next week in Florida, raising money and setting out on what aides describe as a fence-mending bid in the orphaned state.

The travel schedule is just one mark of a candidate eager to shift from primary to general election mode.

Obama and his aides repeatedly told reporters this weekend that the primary is not yet over. But the signs of change were everywhere during the senator’s first campaign trip after a big win in North Carolina and a narrow loss in Indiana nudged him closer than ever to the Democratic nomination.

9. When someone suggested weeks ago Obama should start his GE campaign and ignore clinton,
I liked the idea but thought it rather disrespectful. Now is the time, though. GO OBAMA!!!

6. He needs to hit harder at McCain. He can't allow the Republicans
to define him. I'm not talking about dirty campaigning but to punch back when they try to put him in a box. He should also be sharp when defining the differences between them.

12. I've never actually been in primary mode, so I can't say
The only thing that's ever mattered to me is that we don't have another Republican in the White House- or, if that's bound to happen, then at least that we don't get damaged down ticket (particularly in my home state).

Now, had Howard Dean been running.... ;-)

13. Put Hillary on your "ignore" list
She's already yesterday's news; everyone knows that Obama will be the nominee except Hillary. We've got to coalesce around Obama's candidacy, unite and win this thing. And the sooner the better. Quit giving Hillary the attention she doesn't deserve.

Time to move forward and concentrate on the General Election.

The only way in which I still feel involved in primary politics is to help heal the rift between Democrats as we prepare for the Fall.

16. Agreed. We have a nominee. Let's start the good fight.
In that vein, I want to state my concern over the silly names I've seen posted here and elsewhere for John McCain.

Let's remember that we're in a battle for hearts and minds.

Up for grabs are those voters who are in the middle and undecided.

Likely, they're not Limbaugh followers. Nor are they likely to read the Huffington Post.

They're probably hard working folks with family members (ot themselves) who served in the military.

And to them, and to me, John McCain is a war hero.

Let's take him on with respect. He earned it.

And before you discount my opinion, consider this, I'm a true blue Democrat. Hell, my toenails are painted blue. A precinct chair, caucus fighting, block walking, phone calling, sustaining member of the Democratic Party. I belong to Greenpeace, MoveON, attend peace rallies....

If McCan't offends me, you better believe it will alienate Betty and Joe down the block with a nephew in Iraq.
