Ron Paul's forces quietly plot GOP convention revolt against McCain
http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/washington/2008/05/ronpaulgop.html

Virtually all the nation's political attention in recent weeks has focused on the compelling state-by-state presidential nomination struggle between two Democrats and the potential for party-splitting strife over there.

But in the meantime, quietly, largely under the radar of most people, the forces of Rep. Ron Paul have been organizing across the country to stage an embarrassing public revolt against Sen. John McCain when Republicans gather for their national convention in Minnesota at the beginning of September.

Paul's presidential candidacy has been correctly dismissed all along in terms of winning the nomination. He was even excluded as irrelevant by Fox News from a nationally-televised GOP debate in New Hampshire.

But what's been largely overlooked is Paul's candidacy as a reflection of a powerful lingering dissatisfaction with the Arizona senator among the party's most conservative conservatives. As anticipated in late March in The Ticket, that situation could be exacerbated by today's expected announcement from former Republican Rep. Bob Barr of Georgia for the Libertarian Party's presidential nod, a slot held by Paul in 1988.

1. What is it with Republicans and old white men?
They love their Grand Pa's so much they want them to be President? Both McSame and Ron Paul have got to be the same age. The oldest President ever to rig an election and win was the senile Republican Ronnie Raygun. I guess there is something about Republicans and old white men.

10. Most Men
start having grandchildren between the ages of 45 to 55. McCain is at the great grandfather stage. Talk about over the hill.

4. Ron Paul Wants
an immediate withdrawal from Iraq. In fact, if he had his way, we'd withdraw our troops from all 700+/- oversea bases. Bob Barr of the Libertarian Party also would start an immediate withdraw of all troops in Iraq. Just where again are the two leading democratic candidates on this issue? Matter of fact I'm not sure I know where Nancy Pelosi is on this issue.

11. Don't be fooled by ONE good policy, he's a libriterian, and hates government!
He would dismantle the entire thing.
NO Public schools
NO police to protect the general good
NO welfare for those at the bottom
NO Social Security
NO government financed roads
NO anything that we rely on like FDA and FCC, and the rest!

The libertarians are assholes too embarrassed to call themselves GOPers.
They are live in ivory towers and could give a fuck about the average person!
They have no understanding about how the REAL world works, or the advantages government has for the average person!
They would allow for the rich to get insanely richer, the poor to die, and do NOTHING about it, since they are rich!
The army is only for THEIR protection, and would use PRIVATE Security to do THEIR bidding!

I'm happy to hear about paul STILL hanging around as a pain in mcsame's side. But DO NOT BE FOOLED! HE IS JUST AS EVIL!

15. your understanding of politics is too binary. There are four points to the political compass
and Libertarian is of those four points. I myself have Libertarian leanings.

It's about Regulation.

Some want more/less regulation on social issues. Some want more/less regulation on economic issues.

18. The Libertarian view is always less
which means the poor get fucked, and the rich get away laughing their heads off.
Ever libertarian has pretty much admitted they don't really believe in taking care of the bottom.
That makes it GOP lite, all the callousness, twice the BS!

16. All overseas bases?
Now there's a position I could support!

Not that I'd necessarily vote for Paul, but given a sufficiently unattractive Democrat (Liebermann), I'd consider it.

6. So why isn't Paul being forced out before the convention?
Even Republicans are more democratic than Dems this year.

What are Obama supporters afraid of?

and also has supporters on street corners. Not alot, mind you, but enough to remind you that you have other choices in the GOP primary.

14. Poor John McCain.
Bob Barr to the right of him!
Ron Paul to the further right of him!

To keep his base, he'll have to keep steering right.
