Top Ten Less Profound Reasons I Support Obama
10. Taught me how "divisive" is pronounced
9. He's a fellow lefty (as in "handed")
8. Is young enough to know the words to "Conjunction Junction"
7. I find flag lapel pins almost as annoying as "baby on board" stickers
6. Highly unlikely to choose Lieberman or Huckabee as a running mate
5. I can't bowl either
4. He can pronounce "nuclear"
3. Jed Bartlett isn't real. Damn!
2. Anyone who's got the mainstream media gunning for them must be doing something right
1. I will be able to tolerate the Hall of Presidents in Disney World again

1. Actually understood "the point" of smoking pot.

2. Taught me how to properly pronounce "Pakistan."

3. He's kinda hot (for a politician, anyway).

4. He's a fellow lefty (handed -- I had to steal this one because I too am left-handed)

5. I am interested in seeing how he ages with the Presidency. It definitely seems to take its toll on people. Even Bush.

6. "baby on board"
is nothing compared to the annoyance I feel when confronted with the new trend, the family stickers. Every time I see one of those SUV's with stickers representing their 7 kids, I just think "is that really necessary? really?"

8. a few of mine...
1. I'm also a lefty
2. he's cool, calm and collected
3. he genuinely cares about people (his speeches are full of WE and YOU, Hillary's are I, I, I, I)
4. he understands that culture does NOT mean flag pins OR latte!
5. he understands and VALUES nuance rather than knee-jerk
6. he's able to laugh at himself but is dead serious about serious issues (no looking for WMDs in the Oval Office on his watch, no siree)
7. he'll be the unifier and the "dignifier" we were promised in 2000 (I never believed Bush, but many did)
8. he will be an outstanding "face of America" to the world

Hall of Presidents, yeah
Corporate media, yeah

9. He occasionally actually breaks Repuke frames instead of
--tying one hand behind his back by agreeing with their basic premises.

We are in for a real ecological/economic shitstorm, and we need a president who can think outside the box. Far enough outside the box? Don't really know, but I think he has an edge on Clinton and is light-years ahead of McSame.

10. OK... here's one....

He looks a little bit like this kid...

My son:)

I was reading through the news online one day when he came up behind me. Seeing Obama's picture, he came closer, then laid his hand softly on my shoulder.
"Hey, he looks like me," he said.

For a kid like him, surrounded by not nearly enough people who "look like me," having a presidential candidate who does is a deeply meaningful thing. He has stopped longing for "hanging down hair" and is thrilled with his "Obama cut." For the first time ever, I heard him refer to himself with pride as "African American," he hopefully asked me if I thought his skin might get darker when he grew up:) Now, obviously these are things our family has been working on for years, but that moment when my son first realized he and Obama were "the same" was a breakthrough for him.

Now, let me be very clear... I was firmly in Obama's camp long before this, and he has my support for many reasons other than this. I am not supporting him because of his racial make-up. But alongside of that objective support is a gratitude I can't fully express for this gift that he has given to my baby.
