May I make a suggestion re "rehashing" the primary campaign?
There is a deadline coming up on Wednesday. ( :woohoo: )

And, there are some of us who, apart from caring one way or another about a candidate, are just interested in the contest itself and how it worked. There is going to be a library full of books written about this year.

Maybe there is a better place to post this historical material. And I'm talking about material that falls within DU rules but that could still rile people up around here. I just don't know where that would be.

Is there a more appropriate forum?

My idea was to put "Historical" in the Subj line so other people who are also interested in that topic can find it AND, so people who are more interested in the ongoing/upcoming campaigning won't be derailed by it in any way.

Thoughts?

1. I think that's an excellent idea!

Sometimes I find myself going back to the last primary to refresh my mind about what was happening--not to gloat (I was a Deaniac), but to gain perspective on the latest primary, etc., or to just take another look at recent history. I've tried to go back even further to find people's reactions to the election of 2000, 9/11, and so on. Sometimes my searches are in vain.

Maybe DU could archive things for perusal after a reasonable cooling off period. Some kind of historical archive would be of use to those from historians, writers, and media as well.

Again, good idea! I hope the admins consider it.

about the primaries.

Half of the "looking back" posts here are by posters who are interested in history, not by posters who want to keep a "war" going.

edit for clarity.

4. The Research Forum .....
There are the infamous "Plame Threads," etc there. It would be a worthy topic for those doing research. I can say that without question, there are high school/college/university students who read DU:GD-P, but who do not participate in the discussions. They use DU as a "tool," so to speak. I know this, because I have had the pleasure of assisting groups from a number of school-based groups in a section of upstate New York.

Were people to start such an effort in the Research Forum, I would be glad to contribute.

5. I'm a little bit intimidated by the Research Forum.
