Obama's birth certificate
Obama's birth certificate
by kos
Thu Jun 12, 2008 at 08:09:04 AM PDT

....Rumors include the claim that Obama was born in Kenya, that his middle name isn't "Hussein", but "Muhammad", and that his real name is "Barry" and not "Barrack". The first and third are attempts to reinforce the claims that Obama isn't "American" enough -- the first because he wouldn't have been born in this country, and the third because he would've taken a perfectly good "American" name and rejected it in favor of a foreign one.

It was because the information WAS there I couldn't understand why the number was blocked out. Identity theft or "Copying" never occurred to me.

Most babies
don't choose their own names. Why Obama is being trashed because of his parents' choice of names is a pretty bogus concern.

It's not as though he crawled out of the womb shrieking "Name me Hussien! Name me Hussien!"

72. Of course they don't! My point was that the Name Hussien is
associated by many Americans with Sadaam Hussien. If Barack had mentioned that he was named after his father as a Jr. or the II, because THAT also is a common practice that most Americans are used to, it may have put some of their irrational concerns about his name to rest.

Like it or not, American opinions of people are influenced by their name. Why do you think some parents agonize over what to name their child? It's RARE to find prominent people with what we view as odd or goofy names like Wilbur, Buford.

53. what other candidates have ever been forced to produce a birth certificate
to prove that they were born where and when they said they were born?

Its one thing if the candidate admits to having been born outside the United States. But I know of not one example of a demand being made that a candidate who is reported to have been born in the United States, and with respect to whom there is zero -- ZERO -- evidence to rebut the presumption accorded all other candidates about the circumstances of their birth.

Edited on Thu Jun-12-08 11:18 AM by saracat
he was born on a military base and that counts as US soil! And Obama's citizenship wasn't ever in question because he had an American mother. It was the location of his birth that was signifigant just as in the case with Mccain. People who questioned his citzenship were silly.BTW, people questioned McCains citizenship 8 years ago too, also silly.

70. exactly: McCain didn't claim to be born on US soil
which differentiates him from 99 percent of the candidates for president. Obama claims to be born on US soil, which makes him like virtually every other candidate, yet only he has the demand put on him to produce a birth certificate. What makes Obama different from, say, George Bush or John Kerry such that he, but not they, have to produce a birth certificate? I think we all know.

This is the right wing seeking to prove dishonesty that would play into the narrative that they're trying to frame.

Someone here did a quick google search and found the info that is now posted(it wasn't on wiki).

I'm sure he has verified his birth with the applicable agencies.

This latest stunt by the right is not to find out the truth but to put yet another rumor out there that would cause people to question Obama.

Plus the Form on which it is printed was last revised in 2001!!!!

Why couldn't they produce the ORIGINAL???

Maybe because it does not exist!!! This is not going to make this go-away, it is only going to stir the pot!!!!!!"

I have had to do so myself once.

This is legit, and printed out on a laser printer. The time stamp notarizes it. It is a legal document. If one were to go the the local registrar for a birth certificate, they would get something like this.

58. That wouldn't have mattered anyway
Hawaii became a U.S. territory in 1898. Hence, it became U.S. soil then.

Barry Goldwater, the GOP nominee in 1964, was born in Arizona before it became a state, when still a territory. John McCain was born on a U.S. naval base in the Panama Canal Zone (then a territory), and both territories and U.S. government property, such as military installations and embassies, are considered U.S. soil.

All presidents born before 1776 (as subjects of another nation) were grandfathered in by the Constitution. Since this is irrelevant now, this clause is no longer part of the current document.

not my idea of a great first post but here goes, problems i can see with this certificate from the off, im not sure how hawaii does there forms but as his mothers name is last name first then first then middle, people will assume the Baraks names is actually hussein obama barack. second point and someone more familiar with middle eastern names can advise on this, my first thought is people will notice the name thing and then say that hes called barack obama as hes reversed his name as is common in islamic cultures.

84. No. I'm not.
I've done a lot of genealogical research over the years. There is a lot of little mundane info that should be on the doc that isn't. Where the birth occurred (hospital, home etc), parents addresses and usual occupations, witness signatures and info, etc.

May very well be legit. But it doesn't appear that way to me.

well, technically not the birth certificate because that's actually kept by the state, but 2 official certifications of birth. The first is the one they gave my parents when I was born, that has things like their names. The other is a little yellow paper that just says I was born, nothing about parentage, which is what I got when I wrote to the state for a copy, which was good enough to get a marriage license and a passport. This was from New York, btw.

However, my daughter's is from another state (not TX or HI) and has things like our address at the time of the birth, that she was my first birth, etc.

Depends on the state. Have you done geneological research using bcs from all 50 states?

They have minimal information. The original issued, which was black with white letters back then, had more information. One copy I received was white. Another copy I received at a different time was gold. Another was pale marbleized green. You're not going to pin this down, because the states do what they want with birth certificates.

Edited on Thu Jun-12-08 12:52 PM by mainer
I just looked at the Hawaii birth certificate for my son. (He was born in '84, quite a few years after Obama's, so of course things have changed since '61.)

There's no birth weight or length listed.
It was signed and filed three days after his birth.

It does have more information than Obama's does (e.g. addresses of parents, obstetrician's name, and hospital address.)

100. According to hillaryis44, HI may not be a state
LOL, check this out:

"It has been pointed out to me that prior to 1986, someone born abroad was a U.S. citizen only if both parents were U.S. citizens at the time of the child’s birth. Since Obama’s father was not a U.S. citizen (he was Kenyan), he actually cannot claim citizenship by jus sanguinis, only by jus soli with Hawaii considered a state. Again, I still don’t think this will have any actual effect on his eligibility, since the U.S. considers Hawaii a state, but in fact if you follow the legal argument that Hawaii is an occupied country and the U.S. has never legally acquired Hawaii, the logical consequence is that Obama is not a natural-born citizen by either place or parentage, and is not actually eligible for the presidency."

Those people at hillaryis44 are batshit crazy.

142. One parent signs the bc
No length or weight on my birth certificate. Just I was a live birth and at what time. If i was a single, twin or triplet.

The Certificate of Birth is:

Certified by the County Clerk of the county of Birth with his or her signature.
the seal is embossed and you can feel it if you hold it in your hands.

151.  OK, fair enough my mom
signed mine and I signed my daughters. Illinois only has one line so I guess that why only one signature.

Each state may be different or maybe it's the hospital we were born at the same one.

Edited on Thu Jun-12-08 04:13 PM by pnwmom
None of our family members has a birth certificate that is signed by a parent.

And you've implied that Obama's lacks a state seal, though it clearly has one at the top.

158. Ha! EVERY state is DIFFERENT.
Do you guys understand there are FIFTY states?

I've seen birth certificates from seven different states and the all varied. But my Texas one doesn't have a single signature. My daughter's (from another state) has no signature, either.

But my husband's (yet another state) has TWO signatures.

People need to remember that every state does this slightly differently.

111. In the comments section in dailykos, Kos says he simply asked
the Obama campaign for a copy and they gave it to him. So now we know the source of the certificate is legit.

117. Next the GOP will want Obama to go on Maury with his grandmother to prove he's half white.
It's always going to be something with them. I get new made up shit from the GOP types twice weekly. Just got a new fabrication, same old shit - an email that is attributed to some General, warning of all the dire secret things Obama is going to implement (like take IN GOD WE TRUST off the money).

The GOP is evil. Dirty tricks is their primary election tool. That includes dissemination of disinformation, suppressing the vote, and stealing votes.

They're going to keep making up shit about Obama, just like they did with this topic.

124. McSame's Birth Certificate

Thought lost for the ages, the document was found in a clay jar, in an abandoned cave, on the outskirts of Sedona, by a shepherd boy in 1947. The desert climate and the dry atmosphere in the caves kept the parchment remarkably well preserved.

Unfortunately, the language on the document is in Essene, a language which has been dead for about 1,900 years. So, much like a lot of Senator McCain's modern-day speeches, press releases, and interviews, nobody can really comprehend what it says.

If all they've got to blather about is doubting if Obama is an American, then we win in a landlside of historic proportions.

People are upset about $4 gas and two wars and no healthcare.

They don't give a flying fig about this nonsense.

They are scared and their stink of fear amuses me.

And the short form contains everything necessary to prove that Obama is a citizen, which is the whole point of the exercise.

If you requested a copy of your BC. No one is claiming this is the original, but this is just as good as far as the government is concerned.

BTW the new right-wing meme is that this was photoshopped to change his fathers race from "white" to "african". (A new born wanted in on affirmative action that at the time didnt exist)

I only mention it because its a matter of hours before it hits here
