PUMA leader on MSNBC now
Edited on Fri Jun-27-08 03:17 PM by TheDonkey
and she's batshit crazy.

Says she cannot see Obama as president, has looked at his platform and is not interested (yet agrees it is very similiar to Clinton's), and is "open" to voting for McCain, would not vote Obama if Hillary was VP. What a loon.

A shame but not a surprise that cable news is propping these sad, egomaniacal, bitter people up, which probably number in the dozens.

PUMA is a little too close to cougar for a woman's organization, if you ask me.

namely, Donnie McClurkin and they view his 'civil unions' but not 'marriage' stance as Jim Crow.

Presidential elections are all about taking as much of the middle ground as possible. It's only a feasible 2-party system.

113. since you are a gay man may i ask a question?
since marriage is a religious institution why is there a fuss about civil unions?
my marriage was performed by the church but my union was registered with the government
no religious rite need be done for a civil wedding and in fact is, imo, outlawed under the 1st amendment
so any "marriage" the government acknowledges is in fact a civil union
so why the fuss?

im not being obtuse i just dont understand how this causes the feeling of jim crow

120. I think the answer is . . .
somehow a civil union will not grant all the same rights as a marriage would. I agree up to a certain point with that, because if it remains strictly a state's rights issue then federal benefits will not be included. California had a system set up for recognition of civil unions (domestic partnerships). This granted most but not all the same rights to same gender couples as married couples. And opposite gender couples did not need to register. This does seem to me to be 'separate but equal' which is never equal.

I'm not in favor of same gender marriage. I support the abolition of marriage in all our laws and putting marriage back in the religious institutions. I know this will never happen in my life time, but it's the way I feel.

Marriage started as a pagan ceremony which was adopted by religions and eventual became a construct of the state. It should be relegated back to religion or any group that wishes to perform ceremonies of marriage.

My partner and I have been together for nearly eighteen years. We've never felt it necessary to have a marriage ceremony and wouldn't do so even if our locality allowed it. Neither of us have any children so that might affect our decision if it were so. When I entered the hospital recently, I made it clear that he was the only one they could contact in case something happened. I have no first degree living relatives and he only has his mother in the first degree. My will is written to leave everything to him so I don't see any necessity for a marriage. I own the house (no mortgage) where we will be living in another month.

As a general rule most gays are self respecting and hold to liberal principles that even the Democratic Party in its present incarnation doesn't live up to. However there are of course a few exceptions to every rule.

Do you know if that protest planned by PUMA actually occurred? I haven't heard anything about it, didn't know it was even planned until I read WesDem's link to PUMA.

From what I read down thread, the woman was a Republican apparently before she signed on for Clinton. She herself will be no loss; I hope not too many Clinton supporters are dumb enough to fall in with her.

But I don't know if the protest took place. I saw a Hillary for President sign, so I thought it might have, but I don't know. It was at the back edge of the crowd from the stage. Mind you, I have only CNNI, so I don't always see the same television everyone else is seeing. This was a short live clip shown very briefly, quite a while before Clinton and Obama arrived, and before the channel went live to the event. I didn't see any such signage in the crowd then.

the only use that they have for Hillary Clinton that I can see is as a gross caricature to hide behind while they piss on the Democratic party. None of the posts or tracts of theirs that I've read showed even a remote progressive and/or feminist sense.

But then, why should I be surprised. These are Republicans, after all, doing what Republicans do so well - lying thru' their asses.

Did anyone read that article on the Huffington Post a month ago called "My Own Reverend Wright"? It was about a Hillary Clinton supporter (who was turning to Obama when Obama got the nomination) who had gone through the primary with one of the PUMA founders as friends, watching the debates and all of that. He talked about how embarassed he was that someone he knew founded PUMA and how he was really afraid that "his name would come up" as someone being associated with this person, and said that when he found out that this "friend" had met McCain over the weekend and gotten along very well with him, it was like the Reverend Wright National Press moment. The article was pretty funny.

ah, here it is

28. Darragh Murphy gave money to McCain back in 2000
She gave $500 to McCain and 0 to Gore.

She did give money to Clinton this year which is the first time that's happened with a Democrat according to the FEC site.

In other words, she's a fraud and hardly a Democrat.

Not the uber-stupid ones so much but the general crap that they started spewing.

Obama is an empty suit.

Obama is a misogynist.
Democracy was overthrown and the will of the people was overridden.

70. Don't worry about it.
If Sen. Obama announced a cure for cancer, PUMA and their few supporters would be citing it as "Sen. Obama wants to deny chemotherapy to patients".

Nobody has managed to explain why on earth someone would be so *stupid* to claim support for a person and the principals that person stands for, yet go against everything that person stands for AND THAT PERSON'S EXPRESS STATED WISHES, DESIRES, AND REQUESTS!!

It would be amusing if it wasn't so sad and pathetic. They will literally scan everything Sen. Clinton says or does, go frame by frame though footage, and then say things like "See! At 31 minutes and 12 seconds, she turns 1/4th of an inch away from Sen. Obama and looks like she just got goosed by an Oompa Loompa. This SHOWS she doesn't mean what she just said about getting behind him! SEE!! SEE!! SEE!!!! YOU SEE IT TOO, RIGHT!?!?"

And then of course, about 30 other people all voice their agreement that they saw the samething, backed up with 60 sock puppets, and eventually "LowQuarter", "Hillis404", or one of the other echo chambers all voice their agreement that this is "proof" that everything Sen. Clinton is saying about "Party Unity" and "getting behind Sen. Obama" is meaningless and what she REALLY means is to rise, fight on and vote for anyone else in November. All in her name, mind you.
