Poll question: When do you think Obama will seal the election?
Edited on Fri Aug-01-08 09:32 PM by mvd
IMO: It might remain close up to debate 1, but after that, Obama expands his lead for good.

1. I don't think we'll know when it happens. I think the media will keep the
"close election" idea alive and well up to election day. Then they will calim they never saw the blowout coming! The likes of Tweety will will say "What was the matter with all the polls? Damn it, I want to know!"

It's against the media goal (to make money) to announce that the election is a runaway!

2. It's possible.
BTW, by seal, I mean a fairly consistent lead of more than a couple points or the people deciding it on election day, whatever the margin.

11. If the Mighty Slime Machine Can Do That, We'll Never See the Blowout Either
they'll change the numbers and turn it into a McLame "victory".

4. Obama is playing this like Ali did--a few solid punches , but letting his opponent
mostly beat himself and then--BAM; down goes a gray, doddering, dumb Frazier.

It'll be a done deal after the third debate--until then, the Obama team will let the old fool beat himself up and they'll save the resources to put him out when he's already way down.

6. the boxing analogy is inoperative. Boxing has referees and judges. Politics in America
has a biased media happy to constantly regurgitate RNC talking points.

13. The media is neither RNC or DNC.
It's info-tainment interested most in whatever story it thinks jacks its ratings. It's been overwhelmingly pro-Obama at times with the story was sexy.

The boxing analogy works just fine to describe what Obama is doing.

referees and judges in boxing can be as dirty as any in politics.

12. I love this post, mvd.
I voted for after the first debate.

He can go easy on McCain and just wait for McCain to toss Rove- and Kristol-fed lines at Obama. I don't think any of them will stick. McCain's timing has never been good, and he's a little league playing with the big boys this time.

He's in way over his head and I think he'll come off as an old crank. Dubya fooled a lot of people with his "compassionate conservative" BS. McCain scares more people than he assures. His smile looks fake and he also appears to have some problems with map-reading. Bad map-reading is a red flag for a guy who's supposed to have world affairs as his long suit.

When the original 12 or 14 pathetic Republicans took that first debate stage months ago, I didn't think McCain would emerge at that point as the eventual winner. Huck and Romney both landed repeated blows, and McCain himself afflicted all the other wounds. He's weak going in and when the summer ends, the Olympics are over, and people start thinking about their next leader, I think Obama will walk over McCain in that first televised debate.
