People volunteering for Obama this weekend?
I know it's a bit early. But, it can't hurt. I'm gonna stop by the Chicago office.

1. Cookout for Change on Sunday--small rural midwestern town--
This will be an informational meeting to get volunteers. So far we've invited 60 or so and 20-30 have confirmed they are coming. I'm not sure because other people have invited other people and so on. We put an ad in the paper and fliers everywhere. I hope it will be a success! We have music with Obama's words in between every 5-6 songs or so. Pork loins on the grill and the works! If 50 people get 2 voter registrations every week up until registration closes, we could have 800 new registrations in our county ALONE! This will be the goal...if we surpass it--WONDERFUL!

We're also having a Latino "Soccer for Change" on Aug. 16th!!! We will be registering community Latinos and hosting their soccer that day with food, etc!!! I'm excited!

2. As a Team Leader in Pa, thank you...it is NOT too early. Right
now the campaign is gearing up. The focus til Oct 4 (Pa registration deadline) is voter registration and organizing volunteers. We need to have zillions of volunteers in place, trained and ready for canvassing in the fall, for phone calls to identify every single Obama supporter, for people to call on election day to insure every single supporter gets to the polls, for people to drive to the polls, for pollwatchers to sit at the polls (I've had to spend 12 hours at the polls before pollwatching . . . I had vote counts changed three times!!! but it sure would have been nice if there were 3 of us doing 4 hour shifts instead of one doing 12!) and on and on . . . there are many, many things to do. The more volunteers, the more gets done, and the easier it becomes for every volunteer. With just one hour a week, you can knock out a good number of phone calls. If you bring 6 friends for one hour a week, you'll get an amazing number of calls (that's what I did in the Primary.)

Thank you so much. Bring a friend if you can when you sign up. I got my friends to offer to just do 30 minutes for one day. After that, they were hooked. Stayed one hour the first day and went back every week after that to do more. Still working for the campaign, and loving it!
