Did I just see MOSES part the red sea in McCain's new ad?
I was flipping through channels and caught a glimpse of what I thought looked like the Ten Commandments. I sat there dumbfounded watching what I thought was parody...

Surely, s u r e l y, this isn't an ad, is it? If so, then McCain's camp has totally lost the last of their marbles. Is this what he's stooping to? Humiliating not only Obama, but more importantly, the American people with this stupid crap.

:wtf: Is this shit for real:shrug:

2. I really hope you didn't see what you thought you saw.
Or maybe I hope you did, because that sounds totally demented. If anybody is being humiliated by something like that, it's got to be McCain himself.

If he weren't a total douche I'd almost feel sorry for him.

this reminds me, oddly, of when Bush did SOTU speech and left some seats empty for 9/11 dead.

Symbolically, the things we do can have effects we never dreamed of.

They have to be trying to lose.

Here's how it works. God knows how many years of Republican rule is going to come crashing down any minute now, but probably sometime around December, just in time to ruin Christmas. The Republicans will blame everything on Obama. The Democrats will do their usual good job of cleaning up the mess, then the fucking stupid America voters, bless their evil hearts, will put the Republicans back in power to do it all over again.

And I think it opens the door for Obama to run a great ad that turns this ad -- which is called "The One" back on McCain by pointing out that McCain isn't "the one" -- he's the "Two" -- and run lots of photos of McCain with chimpy, linking them hand and glove. And if it can be done in a way that makes people laugh a bit, all the better.

39. I'm not religious, and I've never seen the movie, but isn't Moses a good guy? Then why is comparing
Obama to Moses a bad thing?

Check out Lesley's parable. People don't listen to what is said, only what is seen. Maybe we should thank McCain. (And Obama had 100,000 donations yesterday, a third of which were from new donors. I'm not sure this is at all bad. Or at least not all bad.)

47. Yes, and not only that, he's obviously considered a great leader.
I mean, it takes some serious leadership skills to convince thousands of people to follow you through the desert on foot, don't you think? So asking if Obama is ready to lead after comparing him to Moses is just downright stupid, IMHO.

Epic fail on the Mcsame part; in fact, it's laughable. Maybe that's why they released it on News Dump Friday.

50. You've never seen the movie?!?!
Um, tell me you're making a funny here.

Spoiler alert:

The Jews were in bondage in Egypt. The Pharaoh sent out a decree that all the male Jewish children were to be killed. Moses' mother, a Jewish woman, put the baby Moses into a basket of reeds and set him adrift on the Nile. Moses was found and adopted by the Pharaoh's daughter, and she sent him to the Jews to be fostered. One day, when Moses was grown, he was out with his flock, and God called to him out of a burning bush. God said that Moses should go to the Pharaoh and demand that the Jewish people be released from bondage. God told Moses to tell the Egyptians that the Jews needed to go worship in the wilderness, but really God told Moses that he was going to lead the Jewish people to the promised land. Moses went before the Pharaoh and, by God's gift, turned the Nile into blood, sent frogs, send lice and flies, killed all the Egyptian cattle, sent boils, sent a killing hailstorm, sent locusts, and sent darkness for three days, but the Pharaoh would not allow the Jews to go.

Finally God told the Jews to slaughter lambs, and put the blood on their doors, because God was going to kill every firstborn creature in Egypt, human and animal alike, and the blood would tell God to pass over that household. Finally, after the deaths of all the firstborn Egyptians, the Pharaoh let the Jews go worship in the wilderness.

So the Jewish people followed God in the form of a cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night. At some point, the Egyptians cottoned to the fact that the Jews weren't really worshipping in the wilderness, and the Egyptians started pursuing the Jews. The Jews were backed up against the Red Sea with nowhere to go, and God gave Moses the power to part the sea. The Jews fled across the dry sea floor, with the Egyptians chasing them. All the Jews were safe on the other side, and God (through Moses) caused the sea to close back up, crushing and drowning the Egyptian army.

After that the Jews wandered around in the desert hungry, and God sent them a rain of manna and quails. This went on for 40 years.

Finally they got to Mount Sinai, and God called Moses to the top of the mountain. God gave Moses the commandments on tablets of stone, and Moses was up on the mountain for 40 days and 40 nights learning all the laws and commandments.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch, all the Jews were wondering what was taking Moses so long. All the Jews melted down their gold jewelry, and made a golden calf, and worshipped it. Moses got back in the middle of the party, and he was so outraged he threw the tablets to the ground and broke them. Moses was so angry he commanded the Levites (one of the tribes) to go through the camp killing folks.

Then Moses went back up on the mountain and God gave him a second set of tablets. Moses built the first tabernacle, and worshipped in it. Then God gave unto Moses an absolutely MINDBENDING number of rules and laws.

Then a bunch of stuff happened, and God gave Moses EVEN MORE rules and laws.

Finally, within sight of the promised land, Moses died, and after his death the Jews went into the promised land.

(Sorry if I ruined the Bible for you. :P )

53. Their Theological understanding is somewhat lacking

You know, the thing about Moses is that G-d chose him, even though he had a speech impediment and Moses felt deeply inadequate, using Aaron to speak for him. Moses, despite his imperfection and ultimately, his very humanness, still was the catalyst for freedom from bondage for the Israelites and the conduit through whom the Torah was given to the children of Israel.

If the McCain camp is trying to say Obama thinks he's so perfect that he thinks he is Moses, they have a fundamental misunderstanding of who Moses was. (And likely a fundamental understanding of who Obama is). Now, that said, many of Obama's "faithful" do seem to have this unrealistic image of him as a savior type figure (which Moses decidedly is not.) Perhaps the McCain campaign might have done better drawing an analogy of Obama to Jesus, (but that would probably just be too over the top)

I think maybe they jumped the marlin here, not the shark.

55. More pointless drivel
dribbling off the old man's chin. I find the ad patently ridiculous and I don't know if it will win over that many fundies. Maybe if they latch onto the anti-christ subtext, but for most Christians, as I consider myself one, I think the ad will fall flat. As a believer, I find the comparison really offensive - I don't really find the Messiah a joking matter nor do I think a reference to Jesus Christ should be invoked to attempt to draw a feeble distinction between two POLITICAL candidates.
