If you campaign like Rove, you will govern like Bush
This inescapable truth ought to be at the center of Obama's response to the shitstorm that is the McCain campaign. KKKarl's operating thesis is to divide the country, depress the vote and rule by catering to the resultant slim plurality and the rest of the country be damned. An election of Old Man McCain on the basis of power bars, presumptuousness and pettifoggery dooms the US and the world to a reprise of Iraq, Katrina and the continued destruction of the Constitution. Obama and his people need to sharpen the distinctions with the GOP by not descrying the old politics but by labeling it the Rovian politics of slash and burn and lie and ridicule. Then make the connection between the way these people win an election makes it impossible for them to govern in anything but the most divisive manner. America and the world deserve better. Hell, our very survival as a democracy may hinge on Barack being able to destroy the Rove approach to politics.

1. Whats worse is the untruths McCain is willing to tell to win.
That is the kind of person who will lie us into war.

15.  I think one of the most amazing things about W's regime was the
immediate adoption of some of the most radical policies ever. And this done by someone who lost the popular vote. We should expect the same or worse from Old Man McCain.

6. Excellent point. I hope that Obama uses this as a line...
Pretty much sums everything up in a nutshell, doesn't it?

10.  That's what I am trying to suggest. I have seen Obama's ad
denouncing the "old politics" which seems kind of bloodless and non-specific. But calling it Rovian politics not only puts an odious face on the approach, it also ties it to Bush. That done it is an easy link to making the argument that how one handles their campaign is a clear sign of how they will govern. I don't think we are hammering the "McCain = Bush's 3rd term" hard enough. This past week allows us to do so and to accurately frame what McCain is doing and why it must be rejected.

8. Agree, Its A Deal With The Devil That McCain Gladly Made
Edited on Sat Aug-02-08 02:25 PM by Median Democrat
To begin with, the devisive ads and campaigns do not promote bipartisanship, since McCain has spent the entire campaign calling Democratic proposals un-Patriotic. So, to try to avoid being marginalized, McCain will continue to govern as though he was running a perpetual campaign with his constituency being the Fox News pundits. Sadly, in order to try to generate a legacy, as well as bolster his re-election chances in 2012, you know that McCain will invade somebody. It is the politically expedient thing to do.

11. It may be a question of what countries he does not start a war
with. Bombing Iran is as certain as the fact that the Beach Boys sang Barbara Ann. But more ominously are his remarks about kicking Russia out of the G-8. Bush had enough sense to pick a fight with a fourth rate military force. Old Man McCain is longing to rumble with someone who approaches our capacity to make the rubble bounce. Think about that - someone dumber that W. Amazing!

13.  Thanks. Since sound bite type of campaigning
is now the norm, good sound bites have become a necessity in framing the debate the way we want it framed . The campaign pros around Barack may come up with something better, but I do believe that the themes mine suggest need to be injected into the discussion sooner rather than later.
