A modest proposal re the 527s.
Ostensibly the left's 527s exist to offset the hard money advantage of the right who are now using the Swiftsmear to go after the left's 527s with the hope of regaining their unfair advantage.

I would propose leveling the playing field up front by lowering the hard money cap from $2000 to around $500. That way most U.S. voters would be able to participate at the maximum contribution level if they wished which would seemingly eliminate any hard money advantage.

Doing so might also reduce the obscene amounts being collected and spent on these campaigns, currently over $1 billion total.

Once nobody has a built-in advantage one might reasonably negotiate more restrictions on the 527s.

1. this is not the time for campaign finance reform
remember how long McCain-Feingold took?

Bush wants to talk about campaign finance reform (though he strangely hasn't been very interested in the past) to confuse the issue at hand, which is his smearing of yet another war hero.

2. Perfectly put.
He KNOWS we have the advantage with the 527s. It is yet another "non-issue" that he is focusing time and energy on. God, how I hate that man. If he spent half as much time and energy on REAL problems and REAL solutions, he might not be seen as such a failure and threat to the whole world.

3. I would support requiring 527s to use hard money for tv and
radio ads.

4. I propose Kerry telling * that we will give up the 527s when
he gives up corporate donations.
