TBTM Action Alert: Correct Daryn Kagan!
CNN's Daryn Kagan let loose with what we consider to be an unacceptable choice of words this morning regarding John Kerry's war medals. Here's TBTM's response:

Ms. Kagan,

On your newscast this morning, you mentioned that the Swift Boat Veterans are "not just attacking the medals that Kerry might have won."

While I will not ascribe a sinister motive to your choice of words, I must admit that I find them curious, to say the very least.

Kerry actually did win those medals. By any standard, he did earn them. Not even George W. Bush or any of his sidemen will dispute this. For you to hang an unnecessary qualifier on an undisputable fact is unacceptable and catty, given that the viewing public looks to your network for news, not opinion.

You and the rest of the on-air 'talent' at CNN need to realize that this discussion will play a large part in the selection of the Leader of the Free World. This is not a trifle like your network's other pet subjects like Laci or Kobe or Michael.

I'm sure CNN pays you a lot of money for what you do. The very least the public should expect is honesty, and overall your network's coverage of this bogus controversy has been leering and smarmy and well beneath the dignity of any respectable news organiztion.

If Ted turner were dead, he'd be spinning in his grave. I'm sure when he watches his once-noble network nowadays, it must be headache-inducing.

For God's sake, do your job.

I mentioned before that it might be a good idea to have a central repository for these kinds of things. This language occurs all the time, on CNN, on MSNBC, and others. Wolfie is one of the worst offenders but Daryn Kagen isn't far behind. It is this kind of SPECIFIC biased language or loaded question that we need to point out constantly and respond to, we need to teach these people their job is reporting, not shading, the news.

It is outrageous that you would add spin suggesting that Kerry "might have won" his medals. He WON them. Period.

Can we expect you ever to say that Bush 'might have served' in Alabama? He hasn't provided a iota of evidence other than a dental visit.

Do you in the 'liberal media' ever think to ask where his 'band of brothers' is? To date, not a single man has stepped forward to admit they served with him.

You 'might' think about doing your job, but I suppose that would take valuable time away from propping up the failing Bush campaign and your relentless pursuit of KOBEMICHAELSCOTTLACI non-news.

22. I sent this to General comments
I am sick of people like Daryn Kagan slurring the name of every good american that has served his country in Vietnam.

I am one of them and do not want to see Daryn Kagan on my TV ever again. That person would be better suited to work in the cafeteria rather then Slurr my name and the name of all the brothers I proudly served with

14. Here's my non-biased email.
:hi:

Daryn,
I'm sure you misspoke this morning not really meaning to say that John Kerry "might" have won his medals, but it's not true. He DID win those medals and I for one am sick and tired of the media spewing KKKRove's daily talking points. John Kerry was WOUNDED while serving in the Mekong Delta where 70% of the soldiers who fought there, DIED. How dare ANYONE question his service, his wounds and his medals.

What I would like to see you and your coworkers do is find out where the hell Bush was when he was supposed to be in Alabama serving in the Air National Guard. So far, we know he went to the DENTIST. Please start doing your job and stop doing KKKRove's job for HIM. OK?

15. didn't say hi
But I did write to express my disgust at CNN substituting RNC blast-faxes for honest reporting of the facts.

This is the same anchor who was right in the middle of the big Letterman Lie - so I'm not surprised. I stopped watching CNN after their disgraceful coverage of the DNC, so I'm glad someone still has the stomach to monitor this stuff. I sure don't.

16. Kagan 'might' be a reporter

Not!

We know for sure after the David Letterman fiasco, where Kagan was taking orders directly from the Bush White House to lie, lie, lie and shill for Bush.

Kagan is a real mediawhore in every sense of the word.

Thanks for the heads-up on her latest whorefest for the Bushies. Sent her an email asking why she hates our troops and veterans so much???

19. Yes, Daryn, and CNN 'might' be a news network IF it had real journalists
instead of the corporate whores who bark for their Bush masters.

And please explain to us HOW you decided both Kerry and Bush served during the Vietnam war when only Kerry has any concrete records of service?

20. Was this too harsh
Unless you where there (Vietnam) you do not have the right to slurr the name of every american that has served this country.

I am a veteran and am disqusted by your comments

I find your views contrary to GOOD AMERICAN VALUES and would perfer that you not be on TV. Hope you loose you job over this as I am sure EVERY GOOD AMERICAN will write your boss and complain of your sickening slurring the good name of armed forces

Get a life

23. Here is my email:
Dear Ms. Kagan:
I am writing to you because of your comments about the SwiftBoat Veterans for truth ad. You were saying: "They're not just attacking the medals that Kerry might have won."

1. Receiving a medal in times of war is not like playing the lottery, where any soldier has the chance of "winning" a "price." Medals are awarded for injuries and heroism and not just simply "won."

2. You said "...medals that Kerry MIGHT have won" According to official Navy records, Kerry was awarded the medals in question. Are you insinuating that Kerry claims to have medals which have not been officially awarded by the Navy?

3. It would be nice if this country could get back to the issues affecting us NOW and the future. Personally, I would like to hear both sides discussing the deficit, unemployment, health care, prescription drugs, Social Security, the environment, and all the other crucial things important to us and our children.

xxxxx

I am so tired of that BS.

26. Dear Daryn,
Did you use that odd locution about Sen. Kerry's medals today--"the medals he might have won"--so you could get on Dave Letterman's blooper reel again? Are you that starved for attention or that inept as a journalist?

Thanks,
Tisha XXXXX
