Don't wake McCain up at 3:00am, the guy needs his sleep
Posted by Libby Spencer on Wed, Aug 13, 2008

McCain has been pounding the theme that he's ready to lead, but the office of the presidency is a demanding position that requires a great deal of energy. So this confession, obviously made in a moment of fatigue, doesn't do much to convince me he's up to the job.

"If I put in three or four 18-hour, 20-hour days in a row, I'm not sharp. It's just a fact," the Republican senator from Arizona said. "I'm more sharp if I get a little rest."

McCain said he feels best sleeping until 7:30 or 8 a.m., as opposed to his usual morning drill of rising at 5:30 or 6 a.m.

"It seems to help me to get up a little later in the morning," he said, joking, "Sorry to bother with that intimate detail."

It's only August and the campaigns are in the summer slow period. And I'd remind you that McCain generally takes the weekends off. So if he's already feeling not so sharp from the rigors of running for the office, how on earth is going to handle a crisis that requires he lose sleep for three or four days?

It makes a good case for voting for Obama, the young guy who has the energy to hit the campaign trail full time and still works out in the gym every day.
