MSNBC is trashing Obama
and I tuned into them because they would be less harsh. I guess they don't like intellectual answers.

2. Yep, we have a become a nation that disrespects INTELLECT
We have become a big, DUMB, CONSUMPTIVE nation.
We don't value work -- we only value WEALTH.
We don't value intelligence -- we only value
APPEARANCE/pandering.

I really, really, REALLY don't want to live
here anymore ...

8. McCain won the evening and spoke to most Americans watching with the tone they
wanted to hear. Obama is much more sincere and honest, however, that does not make for good theater.

10. So Obama should come out with a 40 and half his shirt tucked?
Sit down with his legs spread part, grab his crotch, burp and laugh at the fat guy's beard?

Ok.

17. No: He Needs To Talk To The Working Class People
And if he hangs out enough with working class people he'll learn how to communicate effectively with us.

And that doesn't mean talking down to people.

Obama does need to learn better communication skills that appeal to the tens of millions of people who did not graduate from college, much less Ivy League schools.

short effective sound bites and use them over and over again, thoughtful answers are getting him nowhere.

30. Thoughtful answers are fine as long as they also include good sound bites. The old rule applies:
"Tell them what you're going to tell them, tell them, then tell them what you told them." Sandwich the careful reasoning between two good sound bites.

22. Sorry but I disagree....
Obama should be nothing but himself. His communication skills are fine. This forum was in one of the most republican counties in California. McCain was in his element. I do not understand why one would want a dumbed down president.

38. I agree
Obama was great last night. :patriot:

MSNBC yesterday was full of it. They had the group called women's independent forum on. This group is as far right as you can get. They're big time fundies.

They were oddly with Pat Buchanan giving analysis on Obama. This far right group is being paraded around as if they're some non partisan group.

11. Spot on ...
McCain won the evening playing with a home field advantage ...

Agree that in general, and specifically with the crowd at hand, having some black and white good vs evil approach is more "appealing" than BO's process oriented style ...

31. McCain won nothing. This was his crowd and Obama made inroads.
McCain has to hold all these voters just to have a chance.

Obama just has to peel off a few percent and he destroys ol' Five-Plane.

Obama was great last night.

The audience was a fundy audience.

5,000 of the tickets went to the people who goes to the mega church. The mega church is a far right church.

16. Obama gave thoughtful answers to tough, moral questions. Regular policy debate will be easier......
to present the political and policy, but the after story, the reffing will be just as slanted. I remember seeing the Kerry debates differently than commentators.

McCain's glibness was inappropriate tonight, but mods would prefer anything McCain.

Edited on Sun Aug-17-08 12:16 AM by democrat2thecore
It wasn't a college class with Obama as the professor, but that's how the campaign decided to play it. McCain played it as a politician and clearly won. I disagreed with everything he said - but he was clearly more effective tonight. With that said, I agree with those who say it's disgusting the event even took place.

edit: double word

21. It boggles the mind that this event
ever took place. To think that two presidential candidates would be questioned, interviewed, grilled - whatever - by a religious leader is absurd. Both were reduced to pandering to the 'faith based' crowd. It diminishes all concerned.

29. MSNBC is viewed on a good night for them 1,000,000
On a night that the Olympics are on I'm guessing their ratings are lower. This event was watched by Politicos and maybe Fundies. For that Obama did what he needed to do.
