The shot I saw where I thought she was clapping I got the wrong idea.

and it was from the right side so couldn't see the sling.

to clarify, you couldn't see where the sling goes around her neck.

11. Another Bash Cindy McCain Thread For Having Medical Problem
she has carpal tunnel syndrome - has for years, had surgery on both hands I believe. Yes she never has had a real job. I didn't get CT until after I stopped working.

CT hurts like hell, and with some, it's recurring - she got it from shaking hands, someone grabbed her hand too hard, she went to the hospital. CT requires that you don't move your hands at all during the healing period. Thus, the sling.

She often fakes medical problems to get pain meds I've read here on DU, including having a knee replacement.

20. So do you honestly believe that ONE handshake can cause carpal tunnel??
My friend had it in both wrists. She had surgery on both and they never put her in a sling. She also didn't have a bandage that extended from her fingertips to her elbow.

Sorry I am not buying this about Cindy McCain. No freakin way.

24. She Shakes Many Hands Everyday
and yes, for a person who's had it in the past and was probably aggravating it more and more by shaking so many hands, one really hard squeeze did some damage.
She can't shake hands anymore in order to get better - no one is going to go for her hand now, will they?

26. The Medical Term
is carpal tunnel syndrome, or repetitive stress injury. But you can belittle a major medical problem for millions of people if it makes you feel better.

30. Yes, But
I have one of those syndromes - Post Polio Syndrome - it came from being a polio survivor. I survived the initial virus, this however just keeps getting worse and there are no known drugs. Same with Carpal Tunnel - no Western RX drugs, just surgery. So you see, not every syndrome has a big pharma drug to treat.

35. Yes, I honestly believe that. Your one friend who had a different medical case is not proof.
Notice I'm being nice and I didn't start off my post with a big fat duh. Several politicians (Adlai Stevenson is one) have developed physical ailments as a result of shaking tens of thousands of hands with enthusiastic and sometimes overly excited fans.

I can't quite imagine, but that was the explanation on one of the news programs the other night.

19. Probably got tired of shaking hands with strangers.
Even if you don't have carpal tunnel, if you shake hands a lot or sign autographs all day your hand still hurts like hell. I hope he didn't hit her, but everything previously stated could play into it, including her attraction to pain meds. I think she just got fed up. She's not running for president and she knows he's too much of a chucklehead to win. I'd tell him to f%#@ off, too.

31. Some people thing that squeezing the other person's hand
during a handshake signals sincerity and they just go too far. I've been 'assaulted' like that before and it does hurt, especially if I'm wearing a ring. Having had arthritis in my hands when I was younger really made me sensitive to overzealous handshaking. The image of being on a reception line still makes me shudder.

34. It's not her arma, but a new prosthetic that's healing from the attachment surgery.
The unvarnished (and heretofor hidden) truth is that she chewed her own arm off to get out of an interview with Larry King.
