We have indeed made a major breakthrough in creating pluripotent stem cells from adult skin cells.

But the genes that have been used to create the cells can cause cancer, thus there can be no practical application of the new technology until that hurdle is overcome.

Thus, the questions surrounding embryonic stem cell research are not moot, as he was implying.

Reputable scientists in the field will tell you that there is still an overwhelming need for embryonic stem cell research, federally funded, and that even when pluripotent cells are realized practically and clinically, both avenues of research should continue unimpeded.

The conservative evangelicals will stop at nothing to confuse and distort this issue.

They are so blinded by their rigid view of the world that they would rather see frozen embryonic cells thawed out and destroyed then to have them be used to develop cures for disease. I guess it is better to be right and suffer than to compromise.
