Senator Obama is the perfect foil/sabre....

...to counter the smooth-thinking ex-KGB Colonel Vladimir Putin. Both men are strikingly similar in many respects: conversant on every issue, sensitive to the nuances of change, graceful, and absolutely iron fisted within a velvet glove. If Senator Obama was at the Olympics versus our current clown of a fuckstick of a President (and Obama would have been there for the opening ceremony only instead of playing grab ass with the athletes) I suspect that the Russians would have backed out of South Ossentia a lot sooner or not invaded at all.

1. They didn't "invade".

I am not pro-Russia in this but please do not use WH talking points. Russian citizens living in South Ossetia (a disputed territory) were attacked by Georgian forces and there's some talk we had a hand in it.

Georgia will not be admitted to NATO (we wanted it but other countries said no) until her border is closed and secure. South Ossetia is the sticky point.

Russia, of course, would like to absorb South Ossetia and Georgia if they can get away with it, but they did not "invade" unprovoked. Their citizens were being killed.

Both countries are at fault, fighting over a region that belongs to neither.

2. Obama would have never "green lighted" the attack
on South Ossetia by Georgia in the first place.

And then President Obama would have brokered a deal to let South Ossetia rejoin Russia peacefully and with the ethic Georgians there able to re-locate to areas which would remain with Georgia. All happening as part of their democratically (small d) expressions of the will of the people.

3. The world demands that the US is led by a smart person.

The past 8 years is ample evidence that we simply can't hand the keys to anyone of just marginal intelligence.

A lot of people rightly point to a possible McCain presidency as Bush's Third Term. But what no one really mentions is that in addition to embracing Bush's agenda, McCain is exactly the same type of dull, blockheaded binary thinker as Bush - minus the alcohol.

I agree with both sparosnare and lapfog when they say that Bush's meddling and empty promises to Georgia precipitated the situation in Georgia in order to create a flashpoint. Strikingly similar to Poppy Bush's baiting of Ol' Saddam (via April Glaspie) about his stance on Kuwait before Gulf War I, and his empty promises to get the Kurds' back in GW I's aftermath.

We need someone who knows better than to try and hatch half-assed plots overseas for domestic political gain - which is what Bush, and now McCain, are all about.

On edit: Good to see you here, A-Pro. I don't see you in GD - Foodfight very often. :D
