Richardson is going to be VP...know why?
He's on CNN Late Edition with Wolf Blitzer and his full beard is now down to a goatee. By the convention, the facial hair may be gone. I'm somewhat kidding of course, but that's what I'm thinking.

Either way, he is kicking ass on McCain's notions about Russia/Georgia... the man knows the deal... and he is sticking up for Obama hardcore.

policy as well as anyone and better than most.

Also was Sec. of Energy and the same can be said of him on that subject.

15 years in Congress, 2 term Gov of a western state, Catholic, Latino....

I don't see the facial hair being a big deal

and if you notice the photo in my sig, that is how he wears his beard

3. Ha! That's funny - The beard is the key!
I think all of the previous candidates who are stumping for Obama really seem to like him and have a sense of loyalty to him-- that's great.

I always loved Richardson's story when, during a debate he'd been asked a question but hadn't been paying attention, and he looked at Obama with deer-in-headlights eyes and Obama whispered the question to him. :)

8. That's pure Obama. The man really has class.
Edited on Sun Aug-17-08 10:47 AM by Jackpine Radical
Had it been me, I would have probably whispered the wrong question. Something like "She asked if you've ever used drugs," when the question was really about privatizing Social Security.

It is possible that Obama has not yet made a decision.

5. To me
he has always been the logical choice but doesn't seem there has ever been much talk about him. Maybe he doesn't play well in the northeast? Someone mentioned he has womanizing problems? An Afro-American and a Latino is too much? I personally think they work very well together.

11. The Beard is Best.
Frankly, it would be a mistake, in my opinion, for Richardson's beard to disappear if he is the pick. Without the beard he tends to chubby cheeks ... the beard gives him a much squarer jaw.

Obama is going to mean a 95 percent turnout among African-Americans, putting a state like North Carolina into play. Imagine if Richardson on the ticket would do the same thing with the Hispanic vote -- you could put Arizona, maybe even Texas into contention.

So, unless there really is a 'womanizing' problem in Richardson's past -- he would make a great veep choice.

there and could be useful if she were willing to campaign for him there. Then Richardson also spending time in the state to bolster the vote.

WTF are the repugs going to do to counter this? Send in Shrub? I don't think so. Spend tens of millions of dollars to combat the ads? They can't afford it.

Even if we lose there, the ability to put Texas into play could be game changing.

12. Since Clark's own people (including his son) have taken his name out of the running....
Richardson remains the best possible choice for the job. Sorry, Biden fans, but Senator MBNA isn't someone we need on a ticket against the Rove Machine. Cabinet position, fine. Repuke propagandists don't have a dog in that fight.

It's shallow and irrelevant, but that's how people think.

They associate height with maturity. Even as adults we do. Weight with stupidity.

We're not logical voters, sorry.

21. I'll admit physical attributes still play a part in our politics, but I don't think facial hair
is in the same category as being obese or being vertically challenged.

Many Presidents have had beards. Lincoln may be the best example. You can't say that Lincoln was harder to elect because of his facial hair.

Besides this is the VP not the top of the ticket. The physical attributes have less influence on the bottom of the ticket, look at Cheney.

20. Very likely because of one big thing:
Edited on Sun Aug-17-08 12:02 PM by Gman
the Hispanic vote. There are only two people that can motivate the Hispanic vote for Obama. Hillary and Richardson. The Hispanic community came out hugely for Hillary. She can bring them back out in November. Richardson did not get the Hispanic support mainly because of Hillary. But Richardson is Hispanic and they will turn out for another Hispanic on the ballot.

The Hispanic community remains very ambivalent (I don't care what "polls" you can quote to the contrary) towards Obama. It's largely a racism thing. But the Hispanic community will turn out in the biggest numbers ever if Hillary or Richardson is on the ticket. Without these two, Obama gets a very mediocre Hispanic turnout and the race is a lot closer than it should be.

And, Richardson was never really running for president. He's been running for VP all along.

24. Hell yes he wants it... add 8 years as VP to his current resume and think about 2016
he is 61 now.. 69 is not to old to run for President, McGaffe is 72 already.

Then Bill can pick a younger VP and start the cycle over again for us.

OK, I am way ahead of myself here. We need to win in 79 days first. But it is nice to dream.
