The lies and disinformation front.

I just went to Snopes to check out yet another email from a Repubelick relative and discovered something disturbing. Snopes has a grand total of 5 emails about McCain (and one is just a link to a Karl Rove op ed).
http://www.snopes.com/politics/mccain/mccain.asp

Compare that to the 30 about Obama. Only three of which are true.
http://www.snopes.com/politics/obama/obama.asp

Add the Corsi book, talk radio, and the complete ineptitude of the media and I get pretty depressed. So while we take the high road, millions of voters for whom the cerebral cortex is as useful as an extra toe, will eat this shit up.
Normally, I don't advocate stooping to their level but, DAMN, this is getting ridiculous.

ETA: Here's the lovely email I received:

Windfall Tax on Retirement Income

Adding a tax to your retirement is simply another way of saying to the American people, you're so stupid that we're going to keep doing this until we drain every cent from you . That's what the Speaker of the House is saying . Read below . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Nancy Pelosi wants a Windfall Tax on Retirement Income . In other words tax what you have made by investing toward your retirement . This woman is a nut case! You aren't going to believe this .

Madam speaker Nancy Pelosi wants to put a Windfall Tax on all stock market profits (including Retirement fund, 401K and Mutual Funds! Alas , it is true - all to help the 12 Million Illegal Immigrants and other unemployed Minorities!
This woman is frightening .
She quo tes . . . ' We need to work toward the goal of equalizing income, (didn't Marx say something like this), in our country and at the same time limiting the amount the rich can invest . ' ( I am not rich, are you)

When asked how these new tax dollars would be spent, she replied:
'We need to raise the standard of living of our poor, unemployed and minorities . For example, we have an estimated 12 million illegal immigrants in our country who need our help along with millions of unemployed minorities . Stock market windfall profits taxes could go a long way to guarantee these people the standard of living they would like to have as 'Americans' . ' (Read that quote again and again and let it sink in . 'Lower your retirement, give it to others who have not worked as you have for it' .

Send it on to your friends . I just did!! This lady is out of her mind and she is the speaker of the house!

As long as we title it with something saying truth about Obama. So that it gets opened. And inside is a McCain clip.

3. Whenever I receive one of those, I return it "REPLY ALL"
with all the REAL facts, so those who are so self-satisfied know that not everyone is falling for this crap!!!
I usually add a personal note about how important it is to check facts before forwarding emails..just to put a little more salt on the wound.

8. GMTA!!!!
Some wingnut responded to my wife yesterday when she dismissed an e-mail titled "Obama The Abortionist" the fundamentalpatients are sending around. She wanted me to help, so I read the wingnut's letters. Seeing as how I love making freeper heads spin with facts, I included THIS piece in my response, listing the two links you provided:

http://www.snopes.com/politics/obama/obama.asp
http://www.snopes.com/politics/mccain/mccain.asp

This is pretty noteworthy for several reasons -

The first is the fact that McCain has a whopping five Snopes entries (Snopes is the site that's used to debunk political lies, urban legends, dumb chain e-mails, Republican fear mongering and other such nonsense) compared to Obama's 30-plus entries.

It tells the viewer several things:

1. Democratic candidates are more likely to be the subject of rampant fear mongering, speculation and boilerplate e-mail attacks than Republican ones are,

2. Democratic voters probably don't need to spread blatant falsehoods about John McCain; his voting record, positions on issues (that is, when he's actually TALKING about them and not projecting his scare tactic-laden screed regarding Obama), speeches and actions do a good enough job making himself look bad,

3. Reading a few of these, you can pretty much (like Obama said in a recent speech) substitute his name with past and future Democratic candidates. These same tired, "Rove's three cue cards" arguments keep getting recycled election year after election year. And as long as you have enough voters who share the same brain and fall for this bullshit, your candidate, no matter how sucko he may be, will make this a close one,

4. Republican voters who make less than $300,000 a year presumably don't know their own candidates all that well and choose to finger-ear & "LA LA LA LA LA LA" themselves silly when presented with their anti-worker, pro-big business, pro-tax-dollar-wasting, anti-environment, regressive foreign policy and anti-Constitutional positions, past and present,

5. More than a few of these anti-Obama e-mails have veiled to not-so-veiled racist undertones.

Wonder why that IS?

Also, notice how most of the Obama myths are categorized as either RED or Red/Green, indicating that they are either patently false or taken either partially or completely out of context.
