McCain = authoritarian .... Obama = negotiator

Those were the ingrained personal traits of the two men displayed Saturday night.

We liberals may all value a negotiator more than an authoritarian.

But if the election turns on national security (as it usually does when the Republicans start their fearmongering and sabre rattling), a good portion of America will want a decisive authoritarian, and they will remember the clear distinction the candidates present.

We'd better hope the campaign has this covered in VP choice.
