Rocky Mountain News/CBS Poll of Colorado: statistical dead heat between McCain and Obama
(but just wait until after the convention)

Both Republican presidential candidate John McCain and Democrat Barack Obama and have made several visits to Colorado indicating that the state will play a big role in the November election. And a new Rocky Mountain News/CBS4 poll says the fight for votes will go down to the wire.

With a 4 percent margin of error and 500 people surveyed, McCain leads Obama by about 3 percentage points, 44 percent to 41 percent. But the biggest headline to come from the poll is the massive age gap that separates not only the candidates, but their key voters as well.

"We see a massive generational distinction where younger voters are much more likely to support Obama, seniors squarely and firmly in the McCain camp, and anyone in the middle is pretty much in the middle," Lori Weigel with Public Opinion Strategies said.
