1. Obama needs to announce his pick mid next week
That will give him almost two weeks of coverage.

3. Agree -- it'll give us week until our convention,
and we, and the delegates, need time to get used to whoever it turns out to be. Bound to be some unhappy folks.

6. He'll be in Raleigh on Tuesday. Anyone know if he has plans for Monday
or Wednesday?

I'm thinking that he won't do it on the fly sandwiched in before or after an engagement, but will have a day dedicated to all the press and coverage it will generate. What do you think?

Stand by those cell phones!

9. He's in Florida on Tuesday morning.
WaPo

Probably he flies there Monday night. I don't think anything has been scheduled for Wednesday.

7. Well, he is in New Mexico tomorrow and I only see one event on the schedule
a town hall at 1:00 pm

http://my.barackobama.com/page/content/nmhome

If we assume that runs 2 hours he is done around 3:00

So he could hold a press conference at 4:00 with Bill Richardson to announce that the NM Gov. is the choice.

I believe that 4:00 pm mountain time would be 5 central and 6 eastern. Perfect time to get all the news channels covering it.

I am also taking into account that Sen. Clinton was in the state today and that Gov. Richardson is holding fundraisers for her later this week.

So I will guess the announcement is at 6:00 pm est tomorrow, August 18th 2008

If Richardson is not announced tomorrow I will take his picture off my signature.

Gives lots of time for it to be THE story right before the Dem. Convention is THE story.

13. What we know:
Edited on Sun Aug-17-08 06:30 PM by nsd
Obama is in New Mexico tomorrow, flies to Florida tomorrow night, has an event in Orlando on Tuesday morning, has a town hall in Raleigh Tuesday evening.

I think we can rule out Monday and Tuesday as the big day. At earliest, they could send out the much-anticipated text message Tuesday night and have the formal announcement Wednesday morning. Or they could keep us waiting longer :(

and what state he's in on Wednesday doesn't say who the VP will be either. Edwards was announced outside of North Carolina.

22. I don't think he will announce before the convention
at this point a week will make little difference and keep the GOP guessing just that much longer.

24. Obama townhall in Virginia on Wednesday.
Obama and Mark Warner will hold a town hall in Martinsville, VA, on Wednesday. link

Ambinder also reports he then flies back to Chicago.

So, Obama's schedule now is: New Mexico on Monday, Florida on Tuesday morning, North Carolina on Tuesday evening, Virginia on Wednesday, then back to Chicago.

Maybe the text message comes Wednesday night and the formal announcement is Thursday morning?

27. I predict that it will be after midnight tonight
but before 09/09/09 @ 9:09 PM.

But here's the real kicker. And nobody knows this so listen up.

It will be either a guy or a girl.

His/ her name will contain at least one letter from the alphabet.

35. Wonderful Anne Frank quote
I used to teach middle schoolers about Anne Frank, and they responded to her more than to any other character, real or fictional, that we studied all year. And these were mostly Hispanic and African American students. Her words and spirit are accessible to everyone.
