it's still August and even though a lot of people are a little more tuned in this time around than some previous elections, a lot are not really paying attention and wont be for a while.
They probably wont start to tune in until the conventions and even then a lot of people don't even really start paying attention until the last couple weeks.
A lot of you are shitting yourselves because the polls have tightened and few have McCain ahead. It's because McCain is blowing tons of money on national ads to attack the character of Obama. These ads are having some effect. But the effect is limited and McCain is paying royally for it. I'm pretty sure that during the last few weeks of the campaign, McCain and staff will be wishing they held on to some of that money as they begin to realize how vastly Obama's ground game out-matches their own.
Obama IS attacking McCain right now in surgically strikes in various battle ground states. But really, they are spending their time gearing up for the ground game which will have just as much to do with a win as blowing money on snarky ads criticizing McCain.
Very soon, some independent groups will start hitting McCain dirty, and his numbers will drop, keep in mind he can't break 45% as it is.
Let's not panic waste a lot of money on ads right now when barely anyone is paying attention. Let's let the Repugs do that. Let's have some faith in our guy as he quitely sets up a way better ground game than the opposition.
as worried as you may feel a little down, just think this 1) the Repugs wasted a whole lot of money to move Obamas numbers down 2-3 percentage points. 2) they could of used it to set up offices in various battle ground states to GTVO but have not. 3) at any moment the narrative changes and Obama get's back those that 2-3% if not more and all that money the Repugs spent is instantly irrevocably wasted.
and two weeks before the election, when all the dumbshit mouth-breathing indies finally check in, McCain will have blown all his money to run ads with, and Obama will have plently. McCain's GOTV will be pathetically underfunded and Obama will have the most thorough GTVO program in the history of presidential politics.
So should we be a little worried? -at least to extent that inspires us to put in the extra effort. But are things hopeless -no.
One of the great Liberal heroes of all time, Cyrano de Bourgerac said, "I have never needed the hope of victory to spur me on to fight." You could show me a million logical reasons why this battle is unwinnable, but I would still fight for it.
