1. George and Vladimir agreed to this dog and pony show at the Olympics. Authoritarian rule is desired
by both and there is no better way to keep it than by rattling sabres....even at each other.

Georgia's brazenness goes beyond what Bush expected, although he did encourage the president to take a provocative stance toward Russia. But Bush is letting McCain do some saber rattling when (1) it conflicts with the administration's current policy (work through EU and NATO) and (2) the inability of the US to project any power, military or diplomatic, into the Transcaucus region. In normal circumstances, Bush would tell McCain to shut up in order to preserve policy.

3. Another Yes!
Nothing like a new "crisis" to get the viewers/voters attention away from real issues.

Having a foreign enemy is a great thing for politicians - plenty of opportunity for advancement and "contributions" from some really big companies.

4. The corporate media is sure pushing the meme that
voters believe McCain is better at foriegn policy. :eyes: It would be interesting to see how this election would go if we could shut down the fucking propaganda machine called 'news.'

"Pick your city," says Scott Ritter in this chilling video.

6. yes
and the low information voter doesn't care. As long as they have their American Idol,Iphones, and their video games, they don't care if we nuke another country or if we are nuked.

7. Yes--I don't know why they couldn't put off the Poland missile defense
until the Russian/Georgian conflict had settled down. Condi Rice said, "Well, we've had this scheduled for a while so we're just keeping to the schedule", to paraphrase. Why not take ONE diplomatic sticking point or crisis at a time?

I wonder if the "ginned up" the Russia v Georgia scrap to help get the
missiles in Poland .... missiles that over 70% of the Poles do want.

I wonder what contractor gets the money for building this scam.
