Why isn't Russ Feingold attacking McCain over campaign finance?

I used to admire and respect Russ Feingold a lot, but with his attacking of Obama for not accepting public financing, and his complete disregard for all of the campaign finance shenanigans of John McCain, I can only conclude that he is no longer a true man of principle. I am afraid that he is protecting his own ego, because if he were to attack McCain, he will have to admit that the McCain-Feingold law was a complete failure.

2. Thank You! I have asked the very same thing. Not only that but

he hammered Obama for opting out a public financing system which would have left him unable to compete with the corporate media and other Dems already focused on 2012.

3. I'm afraid that I was wrong to have thought so highly of Feingold.

I have overlooked several of his positions that I disagreed on. But, his recent positive statements about McCain had lost me. Now isn't the time to be ecumenical.
