Forget the Pundits' GUESSES...WHO OBAMA may be pointing to
This is what Obama SAID within the past couple days, so I believe he is actually making the sale on the person he's chosen...

Someone who:

Has Integrity

Knows in their gut where they came from

Is not a Yes-Man

Is Independent

Is in politics for the right reasons

Will help me think through major issues, consult with me

Has a passion to make the lives of the American people better

SO....Don't let the pundits do your thinking, WHO does this criteria bring to mind?
C'mon WHO fits this bill?

I'd do cartwheels for Gore. I'd jump for joy for Clark. I'd cheer for Biden. I'd whoop for Richardson.

Anybody else, not so much, but I'd get in line.

19. LOL I had a dream the other night that this happened.
I had fallen asleep on the couch with the TV on and woke up thinking I had actually heard it on the news while I was sleeping and that it had worked itself into my dream (which happens a lot, actually.)

Of course I was sorely disappointed when I realized that alas, it WAS just a dream that time.

15. I like Joe, but does he fit the "Knows in their gut where they came from"? That
wasn't how I felt Joe would be described. That sort of sentinment, to me, goes to more of a against-the-odds background.

47. Biden overcame a whole bunch of diversity.....
He stuttered when he was a child and was ridiculed for it.

He had to work or get scholarships to attend college. Many of us have experienced that, but not many politicians.

He lost his first wife and daughter to a car accident just before he was sworn in to the senate. And his two sons were seriously injured in the same accident.

He then commuted back and forth to Delaware so his sons knew stability.

He survived surgery for two brain aneurysms in 1988.

I guess I'm curious as to what is your definition of adversity.

I would LOVE IT!

I moved from Alaska to Vermont a year ago. Apparently, the apartment I had rented ahead of time from afar is only 4 blocks from his home in Burlington. I feel like we're neighbors! I've never seen him tho...

And he's a BRILLIANT strategist. He has changed everything. For better or worse, the 50 state strategy is in play now for both parties.

31. You also forgot (paraphrasing again) "not all about ego"
A difficult criteria for any professional pol to meet, because you have to have a pretty big ego to run for even local office and win.

Again, I think Gore fits that criteria based on his performance as VP and his selflessness since leaving office.

29. Those might be clues if they weren't also cliches. It's pretty standard political rhetoric.
What WOULD you expect him to say about a running mate?

NOT in politics for the right reasons?

IS a yes-man?

NOT independent?

Can any of you imagine any circumstance in which the things a nominee would say in general terms about a running mate WOULDN'T be close to the sort of generic rhetoric Obama used there?

Do you really think Obama would suggest anyone who's been mentioned at all seriously as a VP possibility DOESN'T have integrity?

So of course this leaves everyone guessing just as much as before, because their favorites seem to fit those qualities just as well as, if not better than, all the other possible VPs.

It was a slick reply.

Also an effective one, since it sounded good without providing any real clues. It adds to the drama.

Edited on Thu Aug-21-08 07:57 PM by Blackhatjack
Al Gore, John Kerry, Chris Dodd, Joe Biden, and Wes Clark, would each fit that description.

To a lesser degree Clinton because there is a competitive history with Obama that would make consultation difficult since she obviously still intends to seek the White House.

Kaine would be OK but he does not have the political experience and name recognition ... yet.

IMHO Evan Bayh would not be a good fit because of his past voting record and views that are right of most Democrats.
