A killer Hurricane to hit America during the Republican Convention
Edited on Tue Aug-26-08 02:50 PM by BOSSHOG
I hope Gustav poops out and just sends gentle breezes throughout the gulf but I doubt that will occur. But images on live news next week of a powerful storm while the republicans tell America to vote for them would be justly deserved.

but I'm willing to use that superstition against the fundies that somehow believed Katrina was sent to punish New Orleans.

3. I agree! I think we should be running on Katrina
And if McCain announces a running mate on his birthday, it will serve Democrats well. You'd think he'd be running away from the Marie Antoinette-like image we have of him eating cake while Katrina raged.

6. I'm not too proud
to admit those five day forecast pictures scare the crap out of me. We are "ready" if you will, but I don't think a human can't help but be terrified of those damn things.

Almost every time I'm in the Quarter I see Marie Antoinette, and she's always losing her head.

49. The tracking pictures are freaking me out and I'm in Houston.
I hope it does the least possible amount of damage... seriously, I am SICK of storms and can't wait till storm season is over. I'll be able to rest easier. The double whammy of Katrina and Rita really traumatized me. I'm not a Houston native and I never feared storms as much as I do today. Every time I see a new storm I get a sick feeling in the pit of my stomach. :\

But I say to you, love your enemies, and pray for those who persecute you,

that you may be children of your heavenly Father, for he makes his sun rise on the bad and the good, and causes rain to fall on the just and the unjust.

14. I have no control over hurricanes in the gulf coast
or where they go or what they do when they get there. I've been voting against republicans since 1978 and will continue to do so. I live very close to New Orleans and I and my family are human beings. Gustav scares the crap out of me. There will be a gop convention next week and the weather experts say there will be a hurricane somewhere in the gulf next week. I'm not praying for a horrible natural disaster just observing what most likely will be. WTF WTF?

I hope this thing goes away but we should also be concerned that McCain and his ilk would use it as an opportunity to show how "awesome" they are "this time".

I don't want to see either. But as for your extrapolation of events, many of us came to New Orleans and other places to help in the clean-up and aftermath. We'll do it again.

Volunteers were and continue to be a Godsend down here. The bureaucratic and governmental fumbling and bumbling and fraud have intensified the need for honest to goodness aid. Sadly I think someone somewhere will be in need of assistance about the end of next week, we just don't know where right now.

18. The problem is, IMO, that conservatives
manage to blame liberals for all sorts of shit, including weather. Conservative preachers will say that 9/11 or Hurricane Katrina were God punishing America for tolerating gays and abortion. Those kinds of statements are offensive. No talk of ignored warnings, or badly built levees or any other policies that might possibly have had some impact on people choosing to be suicide pilots, or being trapped in flooded houses.

I don't wish a bad hurricane on anyone. But hurricanes happen, and there ought to be better planning starting at the federal level to deal with them. Probably starting with some kinds of limitations on building right on the shores, but also including building codes that help keep structures intact in very high winds.

If it took out an oil platform or two without spilling much, and sat around in the gulf looking terriflyingly menacing... that would be perfect. I'd never wish for yet more damage to our coasts.

57. Well, I have to admit that there is no way the repukes will fuck this hurricane up
Republicans, and this time it is ALL republicans since Jindal is governor, allow the people of the Gulf to suffer under Gustav the way they did under Katrina they might as well pack their bags and save their money for the 2012 presidential election. The saving grace for Katrina was it was 2005 which gave the Bush/Republicans 3 years to put that mess behind them (although I know Katrina had impact on the 2006 midterms).

McCain should be worrying less about his VP pick and more about if Bush has alerted FEMA and the National Guard to be on stand-by for this hurricane.

My guess is that even the republicans will know just how critical this could be and this time there is absolutely no way they could blame a democrat for this mess (like they did with Governor Blanco)
