Rove tried to kill Lieberman VP pick
Republican strategist Karl Rove called Sen. Joseph I. Lieberman (I-Conn.) late last week and urged him to contact Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) to withdraw his name from vice presidential consideration, according to three sources familiar with the conversation.

Lieberman dismissed the request, these sources agreed.

Lieberman “laughed at the suggestion and certainly did not call on it,” said one source familiar with the details.

“Rove called Lieberman,” recounted a second source. “Lieberman told him he would not make that call.”

Rove did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

3. What if . . . .
Rove is playing us again with this story?

He had a third party put out the story about telling Lieberman to drop out of the running.

Why would he do that? To make McCain's choice of Lieberman seem more palatable, that both McCain and Lieberman are independent . . . that is, independent of Rove's influence or directives.

5. Rove called Lieberman. The mind reels...
Jesse James called Benedict Arnold and asked him to ... whatever. Sources say a mud maelstrom formed on solid ground and sucked down two counties.
