Interesting. That's a strategy that arguably hasn't been used in decades, by either side.

McCain knows he's got the margin for error slanted against him so it makes sense to me. I'd damn sure try to artificially boost a vital state. In 2004, Minnesota and Pennsylvania were both about 5 points blue compared to the nation as a whole. Minnesota might have been closer to 6. I don't have my numbers convenient. A VP shouldn't be quite enough to flop either state but pretty darn close. The typical bump is 3-3.5 points. Certainly enough to make us sweat.
