Write one sentence of Obama's acceptance speech
Edited on Thu Aug-28-08 02:35 AM by bob_weaver
I would add:

"You have a choice, America: a choice between continuing the monumentally cataclysmic failure that is the Bush/Cheney administration by voting for John McCain, or charting an entirely new direction for this country - towards repairing and healing the wrongs done by the Republicans, bringing those accountable to justice, and moving America forward to a future of honesty, responsibility, and respectability by voting for myself and Joe Biden."

1. In a (more) perfect world I would add
"I pledge to the American people that the criminal acts of George W. Bush, Richard Cheney, and their co-conspirators in the current administration will be thoroughly and publically investigated under my watch and they will be held accountable under the law. Further, I pledge to the 9/11 families and to all Americans that one of my first offical acts as your President will be to form a long overdue commission with complete authority and freedom to thoroughly investigate all facets of the 9/11 tragedy and to make a full and factual report to the American people who deserve nothing less."

24. You beat me to it. Every speech by every politician ends with those same words.

It'd be nice if, once elected, Obama would actually end the occasional speech some other way.

7. Peoples of the world were impressed when...
we were the Power by Example, as opposed to Bush/McCain's, Example by Power.

Wait, I plagiarized most of that. Was it Kerry?

He needs one powerful one-liner. Hillary and Bill had a few good ones.

Biden's Freudian slip was good.

"Daddy, where are you?" was a good one.

It's a punchiline to a joke and was heard in the background in the beginning scene from the film The Sting, as part of a vaudeville act.

22. "45 years ago Martin Luther King stood on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial
Edited on Thu Aug-28-08 03:45 PM by charlie and algernon
and spoke of a dream that all men may be equal, that my daughters, Malia and Sasha, could attend school with little boys and little girls of all nationalities and creeds.

Martin Luther King dreamed of an equality stretching to every race, to every religion, to every gender, to every creed and walk of life. Tonight, as we stand in one of America's great cities, King's dream has been realized.

My standing here is a testament to the sacrifce of all those who have fought so bravely for civil rights. It is a testament to Rosa Parks, who refused to sit where she was told,

to the freedom riders, who risked their own lives so that others may be equal,

to the families of the four little black girls killed in the firebombing,

to the abolutionists who ended the slave trade and slavery itself,

To Frederick Douglass, who said 'Without a struggle, there can be no progress.'

Well I'm here to tell you that his struggle has born the fruits of our progress.

While there is still much work to be done, we can say, with one voice, that all their struggles, that all their pain and suffering was NOT done in vain. We can say with absolute certianity that all men and women ARE equal!"

26. Due directly to the policies, actions, inactions, and outright crimes of the current administration
our nation now faces monumental tasks whose solutions demand that we renounce and end the bitter, divisive, hate-filled politics of the past eight years, and that we all heed that higher voice that speaks to us during those times when we know in our hearts that we are doing what is right -- the voice that unites us, not divides us, the voice that heals us, not harms us, the voice that brings us back from the brink of this precipice we've been led to -- back to the promise that this nation, as a beacon to the entire world, once stood for and once again must and will stand for -- the voice that inspired and has repeated these words throughout our history -- we are all created equal -- life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness -- and liberty and justice for all.
