Why in the world did GOP schedule conv. for labor day?
is that meant to be a direct slap on the idea of recognizing organized labor? If so, I hope their churlish motives backfire and they get about the worst convention viewership you can imagine.

SOme days it feels like they're just phoning it in. I know it's not the case. But I'm used to seeing our candidates getting thwarted at every turn the last few.

1. Because they are republicans
They don't know what "labor" is.

2. They think all they have to do is use the words not understand or mean them
"Labor day" makes them sound working class.

Or so they think.

3. Ineptitude, distraction, and the mistaken belief that Rove could reschedule Labor day to November 2.

4. I think because more people will be intoxicated from drinking
multiple beverages and easier to confuse.
Or they are idiots and didn't realize it.
So if a hurricane strikes during the convention is that God punishing them for being total pricks?

5. They had no choice.
No one wanted to have the convention before the Olympics becaus they would kill the bump and any momentum. SO you had to do afterwards. China insisted on an 8/8 start date for the Opening ceremony. so we are avtually having the conventions quite late. Congrees comes back into session the following week.

We got to go first and hey wanted to go as soon as possible afterwords. so they were locked in.

21. Also
There are some states that need the nominee names very early in September, so there's that reason, too. This thread is pretty dumb, frankly, and just an attempt to attack McCain. There are plenty of actual reasons. Using things like this is like crying wolf.

6. Who wants to watch Little John get nominated anyway?
His candidacy is yet another Republican-induced tragedy for America. I wonder how many more we can withstand. I'm sure we'll find out.

8. I heard someone explain that it was deliberate; a way to have Bush, Cheney
speak to the convention, but have as few people as possible watching.

9. Because a lot of people will be celebrating and at picnics and BBQs and not
watching them try to rehearse their lies and platitudes. Has nothing to do with insulting labor as much as it does about being cowards and not facing the American people or the Democratic candidates.

10. Because it works to their advantage if nobody watches
They don't want people seeing Bush and McCain hug live on national television.

Also, they had the worst field of candidates in history and knew damned well and good they were better off with fewer people watching the acceptance speech, so they scheduled that to happen the night of the kickoff of the football season.

15. Why in the world does the GOP do a lot of things?
Edited on Thu Aug-28-08 06:12 AM by Sentinel Chicken
They schedule a convention to start on a holiday because when you're rich and comfortable every day is a holiday.
They schedule a convention to start on Labor Day because they don't know the meaning of word labor and don't have any respect for people that do.

18. They thought it was better to go after the Dem convention
I read the Dems scheduled their convention late so that the Republicans would go earlier, but the Republicans instead decided to have their convention on the last possible weekend, during Labor Day, the start of the NFL season, etc. It gives them some advantages and some disadvantages.

20. Purely to stomp on any bounce the Dems might get.
They followed the feel good 2004 Dem Convention with a super nasty convention of their own.

Will they do another grotesquely rude convention this year?
