Response for complaint about McCain ad, should I follow up
I am not too surprised by this ludicrous response from the General Manager of the TV station. I think there was an email through MoveOn or some other organization to email a bunch of TV stations about McCain's misleading ad.

So instead of firing off a mean angry response, I thought I'd ask you guys: How should I respond to this? The first line was referring to the fact that the first response was blank and I followed up and asked them why that was. I'm sure this is a canned response.

Mr. ____________,

Apologies for the blank reply due to a technical issue. Pittsburghers, like all Americans, have long cherished their right to express opinions freely. We may not like what is said on occasion, but we defend the right for people to express different views. The spot produced and financed by The American Issues Project was reviewed thoroughly by WPXI's legal team. The attorneys also reviewed the counter claims by the Obama campaign. At this time we have determined we will run the ad. It becomes a slippery slope when TV stations take it upon themselves to censor political speech.

Thank you for writing.

Ray Carter
VP and General Manager
WPXI-TV
Pittsburgh

3. Yeah, that's not a bad idea
I guess I would need to do a little research who their advertisers are.

2. Contact the people who made the WeatherUnderground documentary
They need to start sending cease and desist letters to the television stations running the ads because these stations are profitting from the violation of their copyright.

5. I think we should all do that
it might even be a better idea then hitting the advertisers. Doing both might be the best bet in hedging our chances of getting it off the air.

4. Ahhh, The "Slippery Slope"

My all-time least favorite legal fallacy. The darling of idiots and goofy second-year law students everywhere.

7. It made me want to respond by asking him the following question:
If I pay for an ad claiming he's (the General Manager) Hitler, will the station run it?

6. Ask the manager if he would be OK running an ad falsely accusing HIM
of associating with a child porography ring. After all, it's "free speech" isn't it?
