14. Great idea! Do you realize how many hundreds of thousands of people...
have been screwed over by eBay?! And every single one of them would LOVE the chance to vote against that woman.

So probably Romney.

7. Going out on a limb; Kay Bailey Hutchison
McCain will hope to exploit a, though he doesn't realize it, now minuscule-to-the-point-of-nonexistent disgruntled Hillary faction by choosing a conservative female VP.

13. No because not from a swing state
I believe that whoever he chooses will definitely be from a swing state because he cannot afford to lose a single one of them that Bush won in 2004.

15. Is Delaware a swing state? (Biden) Wyoming? (Cheney) Connecticut? (Lieberman `00)
I believe that that kind of thinking is a thing of the past, that is, the geographical location aspect of picking a VP. I recent times, it is more centered on choosing someone who's skills and experience are complementary to the president's.

20. I think geographical location is still a strong part of the consideration (edited)
Edited on Thu Aug-28-08 08:18 AM by Jersey Devil
I am not saying it is right or wrong, but certainly it is still strongly considered. If McCain thought he could, by picking a veep geographically, deliver Virginia, Wisconson, Michigan, PA, etc., my bet is that he would do exactly that.

Obama did not do it, thinking I suppose that Biden's strong foreign policy credentials would help across the board.

On edit: Lieberman in '00 was similar to a geographic choice imo. I believe he was chosen specifically to deliver the Jewish vote in Florida where he was camped out almost continually for the last two weeks of the campaign.

Read more about her positions, including the pistol ban, environment... she's ABYSMAL on the environment and has major oil ties that could be brought to light.

in the respect of older women voters and the south and evangelicals.

...she doesn't want the historic honor of first female President to go to a tawdry, trashy, cynical attempt by McCain to con female voters.

28. Kay Bailey and her Texas oil ties?
I don't know if she'd be such a bad thing for us, to be honest. Huckabee, though I'm sure he's a funny guy when he wants to be, has his own very real set of problems. My own very conservative father doesn't like him... thinks he's a nut.

25. I picked Huckabee
He's the one who would probably do us the most damage, which is what they want, right? It's a double-edged sword though - he hasn't much of a constituency outside evangelicals and fundamentalists, but they're a huge constituency.

31. Lieberman
I didn't think so at all until I saw this report about Rove not wanting him. McCain wants to separate himself from Bush and Rove, so that would be the way to do it. And the part about Rove wanting Romney means that making that pick will be a clear signal that he is continuing the Bush/Rove legacy.

with Biden. PA is a very important state. And Ridge is young, and very conservative, and has no voting record.
