Bases Loaded: Cleaner Up Hitter Coming to Bat
Edited on Thu Aug-28-08 09:23 AM by kennetha
So the coach says to Obama, whom he's just inserted into the clean-up spot.

"Okay, Obama. Get ready. This is your moment. The game is tight. We're up by a run in the top of the eighth. But their heavy hitters are coming up in their half of the inning. I want you to go in there and put this game out of reach. The bases are loaded. Clinton, Clinton, Kerry and Biden before you did their jobs. Biden drove in one run to give us the lead. I want you to rip that ball. I want you to rip it deep. I'll take a single, if I have to. But a double would be better. A triple better still. And a homer? That would be golden. Now go out there and earn that $20,000, 000 signing bonus we gave you, rookie!"

"You got it coach. You can count on me."

Seriously, has an acceptance speech ever been set up better? I didn't like the way this thing seemed to be playing out after the first night. But the tag team of Clinton, Clinton, Kerry and Biden has made me feel a bit better. We've started explaining the stakes in the election. We've started to articulate our ideas more forecefully -- not so much in terms of concrete and specific means, but in terms of broader goals-- and we've started to take it to the opposition. So the bases are loaded. One run is in and maybe we were are slightly ahead at the moment. But our big hitter is coming up with an opportunity to put us even further ahead. Of course, you can't win the game in the eight inning. But you have to take advantage of the scoring opportunities that arise. And we finally have the opportunity to score.

So let's go Obama. Drive that ball out of the park! You weren't my champion during the primaries. And I can't tell you how disappointed I am that you didn't choose Hillary to be your VP. But greater than my disappointment is my desire to win. I can't stand the thought of 4 more years of George Bush. So go to it guy. Drive that ball deep not just for yourself but for democrats everywhere.
