6. I wish she would go ahead and wear heels
I don't think she is comfortable in those flats. They throw her off. I hate wearing flat shoes.

10. If she's like the rest of us, she keeps flats handy when she's not working it
and since this looks to be a backstage photograph she probably just has the more comfortable shoes on at this time.

13. Flat shoes are better for you and more comfortable.
ER: I HAD to wear them. For HOURS and for walking MILES! When I came back from the Pacific tour, I had stress fractures in my feet and needed all new shoes. I wore out the soles of my shoes on my tour of Britain.

17. I wore combat boots for 23 years
I loved the higher heel on the climbing boots. Heels are just more comfy for me - even summer shoes. I'm talking a 1.5 to 2 inch heel - nothing huge.

21. what's "them?"
flats or heels?

FWIW, the best shoe is one with support, like a good brand of athletic shoe. Heel support, arch support, and lots of cushioning on the sole.

There are lots of articles out about crocs and flip-flops. Neither are good for the foot.

19. No it wasn't!
I've been considered tall at 5'8".
That's not tall in Sweden, where my family
comes from.It's "average" there.

There was a stigma attached to it,here.

" Gee, how's the weather up there?"
-ugh!

22. We STILL associate height with power...
here's something from Patricia Williams' comments in her column in The Nation:

"Let me pass on to the cruelty of shoes. Heel and toe. Power and pain. There is still no such thing as a women's shoe that conveys comfort and signals power simultaneously. A serious power shoe must lend height. Height means the sadomasochistic punishment of, say, four-inch bootlets in butter-soft suede from Bloomingdales. Despite the hard-won graduate degrees qualifying one as a professional woman of immense rationality, one nevertheless may be seduced by the ability to stand eyeball-to-eyeball with any man who challenges your word. It is vanity that will ensure a nightmarish escarpment of physical regret. For many moons after taking them off--and assuredly by the time you turn 50--you will hobble about at a dangerously forward-pitched slant."

Me again. We always vote for the visibly taller presidential candidate. That's the way it is. It totally pissed off men that Eleanor Roosevelt was taller than they were. One senator referred to her as "that Amazon." In the 1950s Winston Churchill was still having nightmares "about a tall, EleanorRoosevelt-like woman as president of the United States."

Politics ain't basketball folks, height shouldn't matter!

23. You're right, Mookie!
Height shouldn't matter, but it does!

As for me, I wear flats/sandals.

They are comfortable and my doctor recommends them
to help prevent back pain, which I have often.

:hi:

27. Those without height know that it is power. It must have been
troubling for McCain all of his life since he checks in at 5ft. 7 ins.

16. Hillary IS short. She can't be 5'5".
ER: Here I am taller than the King of England...

Cecil Beaton made me sit for the group photograph because he thought it would kill Allied morale to see the King of England dwarfed by the First Lady of the Land...
